Hey fella's:
I'm due for an oil change. Old stuff's been in there a year but less than 5000 miles. I'm getting a performance head installed in the next 2 or 3 months. The truck will be pretty well parked in the mean time.

Question is will the head install require a manditory oil change because of cross contamination from coolant during the swap?
Or will contamination be minimal and I could leave my freshly changed oil in?

I want to change oil now but not if it the fresh oil will be dumped and discarded because of the head swap.
Thoughts?

 

If the only option is what you presented then wait until you do the head swap to drop the oil.

 

Thanks Mike. SO oil change with a head swap is pretty well mandatory I see.

 

There is quite a risk of coolant entering crankcase during head removal. Even a small amount can be a potential problem.
