98 12v Mods
98 12v Mods
Looking for a little advice on my 12v mods.
So far the mods to date starting with high priority.
1. New Goerend Billet auto. (done)
2. Gauges. (done)
3. 4" Exhaust. (done)
4. Amsoil 4510 version of the BHAF. (done)
5. Grind my fuel plate to a "0" or "100"?
6. 3K GSK or go with the 4K?
7. Advance my timing.
8. 60lb valve springs
9. Injectors DDP Stage3 or F1's
9. HTT 64/71/14 or 62/71/13ss Turbo?
Am I missing anything? Additional HP & Torque isn't going to be an issue on the trans. I had it built to handle up to 800HP. However only looking for 400-500HP range and towing 10K. The order is also based on money. The trans I didn't have a choice. Stock tranny I knew I would have to deal with. It also roasted on me shortly after buying the truck like within 500 miles.. I wanted something that would last.
Figured the turbo would be the last on order due to the cost. Most likely be spending a couple grand on it.
Thanks for the input.

Good looking list. The plate is personal preference on profile and whether you want to do that yourself.
The weakest link after all of the mods is the head gasket. So with all the fuel and air you are getting for the mid 400 hp mark, keeping the timing around the 16° mark and tuning the boost down to the mid 45psi mark should be OK, but not guaranteed.
You are going to need the turbo sooner than later with the fuel added, so budget for that just before injectors IMHO...

well, i have done all of it, and most of it in the wrong order because money. I would say bite the bullet at first and have the head work done. do o-rings, studs, and 60lb springs. then do your 4k gsk. then the charger (btw i love the 62/13/71ss). you can do the timing and plate whenever you want, i like the 100 plate, as far as timing 15 or 16 will be fine untill you get the 4kgsk and head work then you will probally like 18-20. and dont cheap out and buy 370 marines. spend the money on ddps, or for a bit cheaper and good quality check out new era. If you dont mind working on your truck you can put in the 3k gsk now and when you get the 60lb springs put on, put the small 4k spring in.
I really don't notice much difference between the 0 and 100 plate. If your AFC is functional, you will be above the hook in the 100 before your AFC gets out of the way. That should be on your list as well, modding the AFC for more travel. As far as I know, 180 pumps like a bit more rack travel, compared to the 215 pumps.
Get the 4k GSK and the 60 lbs. springs at the same time. Like was said, you can run the 4k minus the small springs, which is a 3k setup.
I'll throw out a vote for F1 injectors. Mine are great. Waiting for more air for them.
Don't be afraid to check out Garrett or Turbonetics turbo's either, both have drop in turbos for our trucks. HTT has gotten fairly expensive, you could find a cheaper alternative if so inclined.

Hey thanks for the advice neighbors (Canadians). I was just up in Calgary & Banff a couple of weeks ago. Beautiful Country. Some kick *** mountains around Banff.
Looks like I might do the rings and studs first. Don't want to take any chances. Also are upgraded delivery valves going to be needed?
AK- looks like I might go with the 62/13/71ss. I hear it spools faster. What's your boost and egt high's? My brother-in-law also runs the same turbo in his 2004.5 He loves the turbo as well.

It spools quick, Im overfueled at the moment so even with the charger bieng gated at 42psi, i can push it to 60. temps are not bad just driving arround, usually 6-900, but in a 5th wot run i wil be at 1800 by 100mph without water. I would get some 191 dv's. I have the schied lazercuts and there not that bad for heat compared to the 181's(just require some tuning so the bottom end doesnt get snuffed out.)
hope this helps some.
In the end you will be glad you had the head work done first
