Probably a problem with the wiring going to and from the Crank Sensor. Could be near the sensor, or up somewhere along the bigger harness perhaps.

Did the old sensor have any kind of groove worn into the end of it?

If there is a groove in the old sensor , then the tone ring on the crank is loose.

00 CTD is right. Check the end of the old sensor if there is a groove in it, its time to drop the oil pan and repair the tone ring.

Yeah there is a tone ring that bolts to the crank inside the pan that the crank sesor reads off of.

The tone ring determines where #1 TDC is. Normally don't have any problems with them unless the screws come loose and it starts wobbling around. A groove cut into the end of the sensor is a tell-tale sign that it's loose.

Since the old sensor looks OK, might want to check the wiring. Could be moisture in the connector, corrosion or spread socket in the connector.

well i thought the sensor looked fine until I cleaned it up and took a closer look at it last night and found some hair scratches on the end, so i guess it is the tone ring. Has any one had to make this repair, and have anytips or tricks?
