Coolant filter
Coolant filter
I just had a thought. Say I wanted to install a coolant filter. Would it have to be a bypass setup to limit flow through it? Or can I just plumb it in series right after the heater core? So it would be a full-flow filter after the heater core.
Anyone know what's smallest non-SCA filter I can use and what the threads generally are for coolant filters?
Thanks.

I would not use a full flow filter, myself.
In fact, I would not use any filter as there are no orifices in the cooling system that are small enough to get clogged up by any particles. And the big lumps are flushed away with cooling system flushes.

If you look at the heater core design on these trucks, you will notice that both lines come in from the top. This means that they are prone to clogging as the debris will collect on the bottom and cannot be thoroughly flushed out. NAPA makes a spin on filter system that runs around fifty bucks and is used on larger trucks. I will be installing one of these after I replace the #*? heater core that no longer provides heat.
Good luck
