Unhappy Controling EGT's

OMG - what a differance the Mods made to my truck.

The only problem is I can peg the Pyro at 1600 deg prety darn fast. What do I need to do to keep these under control (besides keep my foot out of it )

I had a #10 plate put in and pushed full forward and then backed off 30k. I also added a 3kGSK with a 4" duel exhaust.

Any suggestions??

Cheers,
Ron

Bigger turbine housing, or a different (bigger) turbo.

htturbo (high tech turbo) in utah will modify your HX35 to take a 60mm compressor wheel (same as an HX40 wheel) match that with a 16 or 14wg exhaust housing and you can cool those EGT's pretty well

What kind of boost are you getting from your turbo? My dad had the same problem with his truck and he could only get about 20 -25 lbs. of boost. He had a hose come off part way on the bottom of one of the hoses by the turbo. Had it put back on now the boost is up to 30 + psi. and his EGT are way down to about 1050 on a long hard pull up hill.

You could try to adjust your gov lever arm. The directions are on Piers website. Lifting the arm up a bit will cause it to cut back the fuel a little sooner and "should" lower your higher RPM heat. It will also give you a bit more bottom end. Be careful though as you'll make lots of power when your trans oil pressure is low.

My boost is fine, I get a max of 32. I also had a high flow air filter installed and I drilled five one inch holes in the box.

Baker's Diesel quoted me $550 for the hybrid turbo installed, I will call hi tech turbo and get a price before the end of the week.

The tech at Baker's Diesel said the hybrid would reduce my egt's by about 150 deg so it might take backing off the #10 plate to make up the rest.

The only concern with the new turbo is frying the stock tranny. I've been getting some chatter out of the TQ converter (when I try) but it's real easy to stay away from it with right foot control. The new turbo might push me over the top.

I know I did the upgrades backwards but the tranny will come sometime next season.

Cheers,
Ron
