Component door speakers

I aquired a set of componenct speakers in a trade and plan on installed them in my doors. I've been trying to read up on the best way to install them. I will be amping them with a 300watt amp. First thing is how to mount them in the stock 6x9 holes, should I take some aluminum or something and make a plate to bolt into the stock hole and cut holes for the new speakers or what? Also thinking of sound deadening the door at the same time, any tips on that or suggestions? Thanks.

When I installed my CDT 6.5 I used 1/2 mdf to make a plate and mounted the6.5s in that. For sound deadening I used no name dynamat put it on the outer door skin and inner frame used about 8sq feet in each door made a big differance. Used alcohol to clean the door up so deadener stiks go.

If you can't find one, make an aluminum box out of .060 sheet to enclose the back of the speaker. Seal the box with RTV and line it with sound absorbing foam or felt padding at least 1/2 inch thick.

This will stop the back sound wave from coming around the front and cancling some of your bass response. Also, try to find anything in the door that rattles or it will drive you nuts.

I used a piece of 1/4" hardboard to mount the components on. this needs to be mounted inside the door skin or as set of good drivers will slap the inside of the door panel IMHO I dont like the sound from tin enclosures so I use plenty of sound deadener like Brown Bread, Dynamatt on both the inner and outer skins, this will also eliminate any rattles. You will love the upgrade. I dont have any pics of the doors but theres a few of the amps and sub box in my photos check them out.
Good luck.

ratsun,

did you build that subwoofer box? That's pretty sweet. If so... could I get some dimensions from you?? I don't really want to spend the $$$ on the MTX Thunderform box, I'd like to build a box just like you have. I don't know if the dimensions would be exactly the same or not ? My truck is an 01...

Thanks,
-Ryan
