Clutch Time... How Bad's The Labor?
Clutch Time... How Bad's The Labor?
Well, my pilot has been screaming at me for the last couple of days, and my clutch has been slippy missy for a while, so I figure it's time for a new clutch.
Probably going with the Valair 450hp/900tq 3200# organic/feramic kit. Seems like a great clutch for an even better deal. Though I'm not too sure if I need to upgrade my hydraulics or not. Really don't want to though, cause I JUST replaced my slave about a month ago.
ANYHOO... Normally I'd do the clutch myself, but I'm in a different city than my tools right now, and with the hours I work I'd probably only have 5-10 minutes of light after work every day
Just wondering how bad a shop will bend me over for a clutch install with me providing the clutch? And normally the price includes machining the flywheel correct?

First of all the Valair clutch is awsome, great deal. I'm not sure how much it will cost to have the clutch done in a shop( pretty expensive im sure). Dont worry about your hydralics they will be fine. And yes the flywheel will have to be machined. But for real that Valair is awsome, just take it easy for about 500 miles and then you are ready to pour smoke

so, i did it myself!
upgraded the pilot bearing to something like these... scroll down about 3/4 of the page: http://quad4x4.com/Dodge%20Engine%20..._Pilot_Bearing
i went with a NAPA item though so i didnt have to wait for shipping: http://napaonline.com/MasterPages/NO...ller+Ball+-+Ag. if that link doesnt work, enter "1635DC" in the non-NAPA part number search.
there is a machine shop at my work so i got the flywheel machined for free
My install ran about $475 for a Con FE. I installed the biggest pilot bearing Quad 4x4 had, and the machining was over $100.
Total damage for the FE, bearing, flywheel surfacing, and all that was around $1400 even.
Worth every penny-- drives nice and grabs like a pit bull on a mail man.

Valair earned my respect, I got my clutch for 225 shipped from them, and tow my excavator around and stuff, and it holds great. It took awhile to get broken in, but now it's smooth as can be. There higher end clutches have to be some great stuff.
