Alright aside from brand popularity, are there any REAL differences in clutches. There are several local guys around the DFW area who are offering me a clutch for around the $500 range. With my setup, I can't run the box on anything above 1 w/out it slipping. If my clutch would hold, my truck would be entirely too fast for me....... I want a clutch that will hold NOW with the box on b/c I got outrun by a Harley Davidson F150. My brother just had a LUK put in his and said that is what I should run. I can run the Southbend but is it worth the $800 when I could get a non-name for $500? I know with some things you get what you pay for, are clutches one of those items? Oh and I was told that a LUK has a warranty where Southbend doesn't b/c a Southbend is a modified LUK. Any truth to this?
Warrenty should be the last of your concerns with Southbend's customer service. Maybe talk to a few dealers and see if they can't help with the price. I had decided to get a luk cermametallic before talking to a Southbend dealer
To the best of my knowledge I believe all the single disk performance clutches out there are modified LUKs. Without getting to technical, the differences in these clutches will be basically in size (2 are avialable - 13" is the best), the different lineings used, spring rates on the pressure plate, and quality of workmanship. What you end up having to use depends upon what kind of power you want it to hold, what kind of driveability you want, and which transmisson you have. With Southbend you're paying for superior quality in lineings, engineering (which is vastly more involed when choosing the right linings, how they're attached, and spring pressures, than you would initially assume), workmanship, and customer service.
Yes, the South Bend is a reworked Luk with different facings. As far as a warranty, everything I've heard is that if there is a problem, Peter at South Bend will make it right. I've even heard when abuse was honestly offered to Peter about a clutch failing, he made it right.
Also, South Bend OFE is about $700 right now but the FE is about $800. OFE will hold 450 to 500 hp. FE to 550 I believe. OFE is a little more forgiving in daily driving.
On the local clutch company, ask them for references. Might be a solid clutch. Many folks on here report good luck with local clutch shops custom clutches.

Not all of SBC's units are "reworked". I would encourage you to check out www.southbendclutch.com
Peter is man when it comes to clutches for Cummins Pickups.
The LUK will be "OK" for a while but if you want guaranteed performance go with the proven unit.
You ought to ask that Luk dealer if they have a sledpulling clutch

Check out the video in my signature if you want to see a SBC DD in action.

You think it could be your master/slave cylinder? South Bend has a nice heavy duty unit for about $200 bucks, but I heard it is a pain in the **** to install.....not just the South Bend, but all of them.
I don't think so, the guy who I bought it from said he had just replaced the master cylinder. Peter said a spring prob. came loose and wedged in there. It was slipping so whatever, it was gonna be done sooner or later. $735 for an OFE, $95 to tow to shop, and $425 to install. Dang horsepower.......

I was scared to run the 1.5's until I got my South Bend. Heck the stock clutch didn't like the RV275's. You'll have your platform set after getting the South Bend in. Just make sure you break it in properly and take your time doing that. Just think, you could be dropping $5g's for a DTT, so it's not all that bad!
