ck engine light w/comp install

i started install on my comp last week the realized they sent me the wrong one. i had disconnected the battery and supposedly that caused the ck engine light to go on. so how am i supposed to install the comp if the ck engine light is going to come on? i just got the new one today and will be installing it on fri after going to the ******* to have the light reset from the last attempt at install. so how the heck do i do it without kicking the light on? it says in the directions that the battery must be disconnected when installing the comp, but it just doesnt make sense.... anyone?

Re:ck engine light w/comp install

i called my local dealer and told them i unhooked the battery to install a stereo. they say thats more than likely what caused it to come on. i cant stand my local dealer anyway and i'm very vocal about thier incompetence when i go in there so they may just be saying that to shut me up. cool thing is though, i made such a big scene last time i came in, they're all about getting me on my way and not making me wait for stuff. I THINK THEY DONT LIKE ME!! which i'm okay with.

That happened to my friend, after 4 or 5 starts the light went out and has not come back on since.

I think that maybe you fouled up some connector when you tried to install the comp.
I'd go over all the connectors with some cleaner and some dielectric grease when installing the new comp. Won't hurt anything.

AlpineRAM

Re:ck engine light w/comp install

I've found that if you adjust your box before starting the engine it will cause the light to come on. At least I think that is what caused it 2 or 3 times.

Wes

Re:ck engine light w/comp install

just came from dodge and it was coincidental only. the intake air heater was not tightened at the factory and shorted out, so i guess i over reacted for nothing.. i'm gonna post a heads up though.

Re:ck engine light w/comp install

J, mine came on after I installed the pump cover. I drove it and after a few start up and shut downs, the light went off. No problems with the dealer or anything. You don't have to have the batteries disconnected. I've uninstalled and installed mine seveeral times with the battery plugged in and nothing has happened. I think it is just a safety measure. How you like it? You hook up the pump wire? You should.
