Comp box/check engine light
Comp box/check engine light
I was messing around with the comp box that I installed a few weeks ago. I started the truck, turned the comp box off using by using the button on the front of the box and drove down the road. The check ingine light came on so I turned the comp back on. As I came to a stop about a mile down the road, the motor revved up and down and then died. I turned the key off and then back on and it fired right up. Now the check engine light is staying on. What's the deal here?

check your ground. i moved the ground for mine to the front left fender (with the small battery ground lug). also, you may want to do the APPS reset procedure if you had the batteries disco'd for a while.
Sounds like it came unhooked i.e. bad ground same thing will happen if you unplug the plug on the bottom of the comp while its wired up, might need your light cleared but try to disconnect your battery for a bit like the previous poster said, truck will do funny things when you take off a comp

If so when you turned off the comp you turned off the boost fooler telling the truck it did NOT go into Overboost,,, Cant drive with it off,,Must be on one at least. JMO
Yes, I have the boost elbow. Ooops!
Well, now I know not to do that again. I just wanted to see how much of a differnce the box makes.
I unhooked the batteries for a while and just started it up. Check engine light is gone. Thanks for the help!

that's not true. the boost fooler works even with the box off as long as all of the connectors are plugged in. i've run ~35psi boost with the box off and no codes (yes, before the Smarty was on as well). besides the grounds, check the pins on the connector on the back of the controller. i've seen bent pins from the cable connector being forced on with one of the pins not lined up.

aggiehorsepower, I don't think my '99 has that option. I tried that about a year ago and it didn't work. Someone on here said it wouldn't work with the '99.
I had the same problem as I left work today. Check engine light came on and she died as I came to the stop light. I turned the key off and it started right up. I'm going to check all connections this weekend.

Yeah the key trick won't work on a 99, that didn't start til 00 or 01 can't remember which. If you haven't already done so you might try running your ground directly to the battery, sounds to me like you might have a bad ground connection.
