Christmas present from hell
Christmas present from hell
Ok well this morning i went out to my truck to warm it up so i could go visit some of my family, turned the key, w.t.s light goes out, turned the key and all it does is crank... sputtered a few times for no more then 1/4 second then just kept cranking, wont start. Did the key trick, p1693 so i went and got my buddys code reader and got the worst news ive had in a long time, Internal injection pump controller failure. So i guess the next thing to do is ask all you guys where the best/cheapest/fastest delivery place to get a new VP-44 is (i live in alberta) and whether or not it would be a good choice to get a HRVP. If the hot rod pump is around the same price range would it be a good idea, how reliable are they. im only 17 and im still going to school full time and working in all my spare time so i cant afford to buy something thats gonna crater in a month again but at the same time i want to get the most bang for my buck. Also how much do the hot rod pumps add? would i even be able to run one with the stock tranny or is that living on borrowed time?
Thanks in advance, and i hope your Christmas goes better then mine

Call GCL Diesel in Edmonton, they can give you a pretty smoking deal on an 027 VP.
I have gotten several pumps from them for various customers, excellent products, excellent service, reasonable pricing. Lots of times, same day delivery by air. From Edmonton to Whitehorse. No complaints there either.

Give them a shot. Good luck

actually, the code he got is an electrical failure. the mechanical failure is p0216, so it is most likely not from the lift pump.
however, it is a good idea to replace the lift pump, or add a second pump.

Im thinking of getting a fass now, i had 12 psi so it wasnt fuel pressure, theres a GCL in calgary about 20 minutes from here, how resonable are thier prices? I found a few from 890-1150 on ebay but im a bit nervous of buying one from the states due to warrenty problems. Thanks for all the replys, i felt like i lost a family member this morning, cant get the sight of the code out of my head haha.
Thanks again, Fred

If GCL has a shop in calgary, call them, believe me.
They were right in line with II and other stateside companies, after you figure in the ups broker fees and so on.
Also, if you have a warranty issue, they stand behind their stuff 100%, no hassles. and they have shop techs that will work with you on the phone if you have a goofy issue happening.
I will say, in this day and age of bad service, bad attitudes, and prices that... we won't go there... GCL diesel is a step ahead. I have only dealt with edmonton thus far, but if Calgary is anything like the Edmonton shop, you will have NO problems with them.
