Checking Drive pressure. Stall/Surge HTB2

I have Bad Stall/Surge with the HTB2, Its at med throttle when it shifts to 3rd and 4th or if I am throttleing back up off of coast. HTT tells me its not the Turbos fault, hey say I have a fueling problem but at Light and full Throttle it runs and acts fine. What do you guys think? Whats the best way to check drive pressures? I was thinking hooking a boost gauge up with copper line to the thermocoupler hole, Will that work ok?

What type of trans. do you have if its an auto w/low stall converter, its normal, my turbo does the same thing under some conditions.

Yup! Normal! You need to learn how to drive around it...which is not difficult with a little practice. Just plan ahead and be accelerating when the 3-4 shift takes place... then ease off the throttle!

Good luck!

Yes it is a BTS auto trans (Ford 4R100). I have an H2E on my Power Stroke and it dont surge like this, Its a PITA. Should I upgrade to a 64/14? Since I have Lazer cut DVs the DDP Stage 4s?

BB:

I'll assume you have the HTB2 62/12 first of all.

If you go to the 64/14 you can expect slower spooling and probably slightly higher cruising temps. If you tow at all I wouldn't do it. I've had to re-learn how to drive my 64/14 when I upgraded from the 62/12. I do truck pulls so need the top end of the 64/14 but miss the daily drivability of the 62/12 and with any weight at all on long slow hills the temps climb unless I drop out of OD. I have a tight auto tranny and that's what does it. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

If your temps are in check now and it clears the smoke and you like the quicker spool, then I would learn how to drive around the surge. Otherwise I'm not sure that you would be happier. Just my 2CW.

Best way to monitor drive pressure is with a TIP gauge kit available from lazarsmith.com
