Can't find a good answer...

Hello,

I have been doing some reading and trying to find info on DDP Stage 3 Injectors vs which turbo is alright to run with them. I finally have my truck apart and I am purchasing a few things here and there. Currently I have the XZT+ for a chip, Airtex LP, Goerend HP Valve Body and that is about it, oh and FP, BP, EGT and Tranny Temp Gauges.

I have a new 3 piece Exhaust Manifold and DDP Stage 3 Injectors on the way. I need a new turbo (have already looked into my stocker and yes it is ready to die any time soon). So I am thinking of maybe purchasing the HTB2 62/12 or perhaps the 62/14 from Vulcan Performance. I believe this turbo should work well with the set up I am building (granted I am only going to be putting around, using as a daily driver right now until I get an after market Torque converter). Or would I be better off with a 64/12 or 64/14? I will probably be going to a larger module/chip of some kind once I get the tranny all done and better fuel system.

With all of this being said, do you guys think I will be alright EGT, Fueling and Turbo wise? My new exhaust will probably be 5" straight stacks too.

Thanks in Advance

I would rec. the 62/71. It does everything the HTB2 will do but will support more mods in the future. A 64 might be a touch big. I tow 5000 pounds with my set up and can control EGT's just fine by dropping to fourth on the long steep hills.

Thanks Guys!

I do plan on upgrading to something like the adrenaline, bigger injectors, and other mods here and there to promote higher HP.

I'm just trying to decide whether I go with the 62/xx and upgrade in the future. Or do I go for the 64/xx now, and deal with a little bit of lag until it is lit. Main purpose for this truck is to be DD and the occasion drag strip. I know the 12 will help me out quite a bit on the street, but I'm thinking that if I start upgrading to even a more aggressive chip lets say. My temps might start to get fairly toasty with the 12.

Oh, and are the Turbo's from Vulcan Performance actual HT Turbos, just can't upgrade them later down the road? Main reason I am probably going to order from Vulcan is because they ship to Canada.

Thanks again,

Dinner

I think if you go with a 62/71/14cm you should be good for your future mod, alot can be done with a 62.

Are the HTB2's all 62/65/14 or 64/65/14, or are they 64/71/14's?

As far as the HX40 goes, is that about the same size as the turbo's I listed?

Check out HTT website. The 62/71 is called super stock. It's a completly different animal from the HTB2 62/65. I would rec. either of those turbo's over the HX40. I heard it's laggy and dosn't deliver the power like those others. I ordered mine directly from HTT and they shipped to Edmonton no problems. I'm real happy with my 62/71. It does everything well.

The HX40's are usually somewhere around 60-61 mm inducer on the compressor. I'd recommend going bigger on the housing, turbine, compressor in that order for more top end. Going small gives you more power in the lower rpms around town and such. Going big means the turbo won't choke and lets more heat out. You can get just about whatever combo you want on housings, turbine, and compressor from various vendors.

The HTB2 series has 62,64 & 66mm Compressors ofference and the the smaller 65mm Turbine and then theres 71 series that offers a 71m turbine which might spool a lil slower but will flow alot more exhaust on the top end and deliever more power. Those are the Super Stock 62mm, Quick Diesel 64mm, and the Pro Street 66mm.

Thanks Fellas!

I got checking out HTT and Vulcan websites again. The "HTB2/64 Killer B2" is offered for $1665 through Vulcan. Those 64/71/14's do sound nice, and they are around either $1980 (62) or $2100 for the 64/14.

Busa, did you call HTT and ask them to ship to Edmonton? Maybe I could give them a call and see if they will ship to Ontario?

Also, is the Super Stock or Quick Diesel too big for my current mods (XZT+, Stage 3 DDP Injectors, 5" Straight and BHAF Intake)? Would I be better off with just going with the 64/65/14, or should I try to purchase the 64/71/14 from Htt?

OR, would the BD Super B / Special B Single be a good turbo to run? I can't seem to find the specs on it

This truck is daily driven with the occasion strip run.

Thanks guys!

Ya I called them directly after I was given an insane price from a local vender. I don't see why they wouldn't ship to Ontario. I think if you plan on more modifcations in the future go with the 62/71 or 64/71. They both would supply alot of air. My 62/71 loves the 150 sticks. I drive around with the Edge off most of the time and it runs great with little smoke. If I want to run some Camaros or Vette's(not the Z06) I just turn it up.

Go with the 62/71 over a 64/65, Iv'e seen a 50hp improvment from a guy switching between the two with no other changes.

A Super B Special is a 64/71/14.
If HTT quit giving names for these there would be less confusion. Should just list them by the turbine size; 65, 71 or 74 series turbos.
FWIW, I switched from a 64/65/14 to a 62/71/14 and it seemed **** near identical in all areas except a bit coooler on the top end.

Thats alot of money for s300. At that price I would look into a garrett 3788R stage 3. Better turbo, more air and faster spool-up, same cost. HX-40's can be bought for less than $800, just be carefull on what you buy.
