Just ask DTT what you can run with this tranny. They know more then any of us since they build their tranny.
So, I need some more feedback from the experts ... will upgrading to 275's be a smart move with my present set up? Or, will I be flirting with damaging my tranny prematurely?
From our experience, its going to heavily depend on your right foot. The DTT valve body will take care of some of your oiling concerns, however it doesn't address the stator in the torque converter.

If you are like me, and at 60 MPH on the highway, you find yourself planting your foot down hard on the throttle for grins and giggles, the torque converter will suffer. Its not going to be a BOOM and you're laying in pieces on the road, but a gradual effect that leads to shudder between shifts and at low RPMs. If you find that, unlike me, you can control your right foot and gradually accelerate from 60 MPH to whatever speed you feel is necessary, then the auto will likely handle the 275s just fine, but you will be doing incremental torque converter damage that may not reveal itself for 2 or 3 years.

Rod

Re:Can I uprade to RV 275's?

Rod,

Thanks for your insight. Very logical response.

Note that my driving habits are fairly conservative. I'm not out to light 'em up or race. I'm towing a fiver and an additional 30 or so horsepower would be very nice.

Regarding your statement that "if you can control your right foot ... the auto will likely handle the 275s just fine, but you will be doing incremental torque converter damage that may not reveal itself for 2 or 3 years."

So, you're saying that even with conservative driving habits, if I upgrade to the 275's, I will likely run into tranny problems a couple of years down the road?

Richard (Bulldog)

It may not be an issue, if you plan on upgrading anyway, however if you don't ever plan on doing more than the valve body, I'd stay away from the 275s.

Rod

Re:Can I uprade to RV 275's?

Bulldog -

Rod's friend out west here, Rick Harvey, put a set of 275's into my stock auto trans truck..I stomped on it pretty hard for a couple of weeks, and the tranny only shuddered once on me at hwy speeds. It isn't a constant thing, rather occasional. I bit the bullet and put a complete ATS trans in to hold anything I wanna do. The 275's are a great little injector for the cost..I want more, so Rick is puttin in EDM-2's along with some other stuff this weekend..Don't know if you've bought them yet or not, but mine are for sale as soon as they come out this weekend..They've been in there less than 2 months. Check with Rick to see if they're still available if your interested.
