Scotty II question

I'm thinking of lowering my EGT's, and a Scotty II seems like the next reasonable step.

Is it possible to run it in "hush mode" most of the time, then open the hole to the cowl when it's time to really lower EGT's, then switch back for "quiet" around town driving?

If so, how long does the switch take?

I tow, drive in the mountains, and sometime tow in the mountains on 100* days. I want the lower temps, but would like a more quiet ride most of the time.

Tackett
-yes, I know I drive an almost straight piped CTD, but I don't like a really loud cab

Re:Scotty II question

No problemo and it takes about five minutes to put the flap over the hole or fold it back. ;D

Re:Scotty II question

I share Tackett's concern about noise levels in the cab. I know, I know, the more noise the better, turn up the tunes, etc, etc, but I work in a job where the noise level is already LOUD. MY silencer ring is still in position, thank you very much. Has anyone done a db check on before and after punching the cowl for the noise level differences? Something more concrete than "totally awesome man"?

~quietisbeautifulDave

Re:Scotty II question

Here is my honest opinion if running the stock turbo; In hush mode the scotty 2 is as quiet as the stock airbox, not in Hush mode it is louder but not all that much.

On a mod turbo B-1,HX40, ETC. In Hush mode its about as loud as the stock turbo with the hole cut, Out of Hush mode its pretty loud I won't lie to you its loud with my 40 and the hole but I only need to open the hole when I really need the EGT reduction. It does however do exactly what it claims to do sucks it sucks cool air.

Re:Scotty II question

Ok, that answers that sufficiently for me. I'm still stock turbo with a BHAF.
Works for me. Thanks for the quick response.

~Dave

Re:Scotty II question

Dave, my Scotty II really has done little to increase the noise level. At least in a "comfort zone" if you will.

I can hear the turbo a little more, and I can hear it spool up a little better, but definitely not at a problem level. My wife doesn't mind the change either and I was thinking she would complain before I installed it.

The gain the Scotty II gives in regard to egt reduction far outweighs the little increase in noise on my truck.

Frankly after hearing everyone talk about how loud they were I was a little disappointed. I am glad it is only a negligible increase, but I was expecting much more noise in the cab than is actually there.

Not an uncomfortable noise level at all, At least not at the level I run my truck at.

Re:Scotty II question

I put the Scotty II in last weekend. ;D It raises the noise in the cab a little on the stock turbo but it sounds good. ;D Even with the 40 it didn't sound bad, just a little louder. It does what they say with the egt. I'm gonna keep it. ;D
