CA Emmisions 12 Valve Question.
CA Emmisions 12 Valve Question.
Still pretty new here......so be kind.
Checking out the TST site, I noticed on the Power Kit page..............
http://www.tstproducts.com/index.asp...ROD&ProdID=119
............it states:
1. "The TST Power Kit will NOT fit pre-1994 Ram Diesels or 24-valve diesels, and is NOT sold for use on EGR equipped 1996 and later California Diesels."
......and:
2. "THe CA '96-'98 Manual and autos are both EGR engines 180HP and 420 Lb-ft, which may not be upgraded to CPL #1553.
As the new owner of a beautiful 1997 2wd cc with 85k on the clock, can anyone tell me what this means.
Does it mean that the you can't put a plate in a EGR equipped pump, of does it mean that you are not "SUPPOSED TO" modify the fueling system on a CA Emmisions vehicle?
What if I remove (block off) the EGR "stuff? Will this affect how the truck runs?
Seriously appreciate any info you can provide.

it means your not legaly allowed to do the mods in ca.
and get rid of the EGR junk un less your comfortable with it.
but very few people leave it on.
and no the truck wont run any diff.
you wont feel any power gain by removing it, but with out it there are a few things that are easier to access. hope that helps

I have a CA truck too, and like Somis13 said, what you read is a legal warning that these modifications are not allowed on a CARB trucks, like ours. Apparently these modifications are legal on out of state Federal trucks. For CA they are only legal for “off-road use only,” just like any performance part that you would buy for a gasser truck. There are those who remove the EGR valve junk to adjust the valves, for example, and “forget” to put it back on. (It’s a piece of cake to fabricate some cover plates to plug the holes in the exhaust and intake manifolds.) Naturally, tampering with any emissions equipment, like the EGR valve or the cat, is strictly illegal—just so you know. . .
