boost gauge leak

I'm in the process of moving my gauges to the a pillar from between the steering wheel and shifter. I got the boost gauge conected and installed, but now it leaks. I don't even need to look at the gauge, I can tell how much boost I'm making from the howl comining out of the a pillar. I know it is in the line, because it would hiss at times before. I thouhgt by moving it and tightening everything up, it would fix it. It did not. What do I need to do to fix the problem? The tube is plastic. I don't know if it is supposed to be flared or anything.

Remove the tube at both ends from the compression fittings, cut about a 1/2" off, and re-connect. If it's still leaking go to Lowes or Home Depot and get some new hose

Thanks. Sounds simple enough. This is a bit embarrassing but I don't do well with fittings (or wiring). Why both ends and not just the one at the guage?

check this too.

Your ferrule may be a one time tight thing too. May want to pick up a new one, then cut the hose back, reassemble, should work.

I guess you could just try it at the gauge first, since you didn't mess with the other end. Also like MtnCamper said...probably a good idea to pick up another ferrule (the small ring that goes over the tube). Most any hardware store should have 'em...maybe bring a piece of the tube to make sure it goes on snug.

probably a good idea just to rplace the whole thing. Cheap enough. Then it's good.

More than likely the ferrule is distorted from overtightening and won't come off the hose anyway, cut off a short piece of hose with the ferrule and install a new one. 10¢ from the auto parts. You should also check the compression nut and see if it's cracked from overtightening.
On this type of compression fitting hand tight plus one turn with a wrench is plenty, any more and you're begging for a leak.
