Question Boost gauge for exhaust back pressure

After I have the Mighty Cummins overhauled I'm putting the PDR twin Turbo set up on. this involves turning the ATS exhaust manifold over and redrilling the other side for the Pyro. I also will need a 0-100 boost gauge to replace the 0-60 gauge I have now. I have been thinking of using the old hole which will be in the bottom of the manifold and a couple of feet of copper tubing and hooking it back up to the old Boost gauge.

Anyone else tried this??

Your thoughts??

Haulin' in Dixie is working on it on his truck. Thumbs over in the 1st gen section is running one off his exhaust brake for different reasons, but he's using the same kind of plumbing to do the job. It will make a nice tuning tool for you, I would do it since you've got the hole and the gauge already.

Hi Dee
LarryB did the same in his Cummins powered motor home and used the same gauge as he did for boost. He added a three way solenoid valve that was originally made to switch between two fuel tanks to switch back and forth. Copper or stainless tubing is a must for at least a couple feet to isolate the heat.

We used a simple stainless 3/16" line for a few feet, and then to a 0-100 PSI gauge. I used a fluid filled gauge, as there was a bit of needle chatter and did not want to destroy the gauge. I have learned more on twin turbo matching from the drive pressure than from anyting else.

Where the heck you been Dee? Finally gettin your rig back running again?

Your idea with the tubing is good. You can use steel tubing too.

Dee, if you've ever seen DD trucks, you'll notice they have several feet of coiled copper tubing coming off the exhaust manifold before leading to a pressure guage.

I've run a 5' of copper tube off the manifold, then hooked to nylon tube, then on to a guage, and that worked fine.

The guage needs to be "snubbed".

Don, I have been taking my time getting my engine back together. The funds I had set asidefor this got eat'n up on my oldest boy left eye. He had a dettached retna and after insurance it was almost 3K. Right now I have the exhaust housings, intake parts, pistons, and a few other misc. parts over to HPC coating getting them coated with there best for each.

It's been way too long with out my truck but in the end I hope it to be worth the wait!!
