Bigger turbo same boost?

I just installed a HX40/16 PDR & 4" Custom built down pipe with 4" full exaust w/ATS exaust mainfold. ;D ;D ;D
I'm just cirious, is the reason I'm still only showing 20 psi of boost because of a lack of fuel or because I'm reaching the defuling point before it has a chance of acheaving the higher boost levels. Where do I go from here? GSK 3000? PODs? or 370s? :-
I can tell a big difference in preformance, but the boost?

TP;
It's a 93 model. I don't think a box will help, injection system is all manual. I've turned up the power screw 1&1/2 turns, and bumped the timming up around 16 degrees. :-

1st Gens don't have computers that control stuff like that. His truck(in his siggy) is a '93.

Call up PDR and talk to one of the 1st gen guys up there, they should be able to help you out, PDR prides it'self on customer service, and they have a great customer base because of it!

Re:Bigger turbo same boost?

have you turned the diaphram in the pump to give it max fuel. i have got better results from that than crakin the full power screw.

Ramguy-
Look here. http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/more_power/Power_ve.htm

If you want more personal instructions, try PM'ing DTR members Bushy or Bob Beauchaine. They both seem to have a very good understanding of the VE pump an lots of experience twiddling with them.

Re:Bigger turbo same boost?

ramguy,
What you really need is a set of bigger injectors. That's the only way you're going to get the fuel you need to make best use of the '40. Turning the pump way up with stock injectors will only serve to give it an early death (the pump, that is). FWIW, I've run the same turbo you have and with the POD's and some pump tweaking, it was running max boost of 36psi. Oh, and do not put on any kind of boost fooler, elbow, or clamp the hose, etc, because it will void any kind of warranty you have on that turbo.

Cheers,
Sean

Re:Bigger turbo same boost?

formula;
Thanks sounds like your speaking from experence, the best teacher of them all. Would the 370's be some what compatable ???. I had planned investing in a vallet unit for more suitable driving conditions & better fuel econ.

Re:Bigger turbo same boost?

ramguy,
Unless you change to a p7100 injector pump, then the 370 injectors are not a direct replacement. (this pump swap is not a simple or inexpensive change) However, the 370 nozzles can be fitted to the 1st gen style injector bodies. That being said, you stand to gain more power and save some $$ by going with a set of POD injectors which are made for your application. The hp gains realized from an increase in injector size in a 1st gen engine are less than those seen with a comparable increase in injector size on the p-pumped or 24v engines due to the relatively limited fuel delivery capability of the VE pump.

FWIW, the 370's are the injectors used in the Cummins Diamond B 370hp marine engine. This engine runs a marine version of the p7100 injector pump.

Cheers,
Sean
