Sure it pulls warmer air in, but I never saw a difference in EGTs, with or without a heatshield. Plus heat is going to be more of an issue when driving in town (or at low speed) with a load, or with a plugged up radiator/coolers. Running down the road, heat most likely isn't going to be a problem. Lots of air moving through the engine compartment, while driving at speed.
Ummm no.. I put in the Scotty II from the BHAF and dropped my EGT's by at least 100°F under load without the hole. Cruising they dropped about 50°F. Not to mention the increase spool speed. I was a little sceptical going from the BHAF to the Scotty for the boost flow, but there is a distinct difference.

ON the brick filters.. They are very bad for leaking around the gasket surface to the cover, even the stock paper ones. I ALWAYS put grease on mine (the stock ones) when I had the truck first. I did a test by putting a light film of wd-40 on the inside of the lid and ran it without any grease on the gasket. You would not believe the streaks of dust that came from the corners of the filter casing up the lid..

The BHAF is a good mid range filter system that at least gets rid of the leakage you get from the brick filters. But I still love my SAII...
