I'm planning on buying a BHAF very soon...like this weekend!
I did a search and couldn't find the answer...So.....Does anybody have a pic of the mounting brackets and a pic of what the heat shield should look like? I've read about them, but I'm not creative enough to picture what they look like!

The BHAF is big enough that you don't need a mounting bracket, it just kind of sits where the air box used to be. The BHAF heat shield mounts right to the mounting bolts for the air box.

Excuse me guys, I'm new here, so I hope its ok for me to get in here and ask a question. How do you hook the BHAF to the intake hose? Please let me know if I am out of line. thanks.

 

Doesnt seem like your outta line at all. I believe you connect the filter to the intake tube just as you did the airbox........slide it on the filter and tighten the hoseclamp. (someone correct me if im wrong)

If you can find a piece of 4" exhaust pipe, cut off a small section and insert it in the neck of the BHAF before putting the intake hose and clamp over it. This will give the neck more rigidity so you can tighten down the clamp without deforming the neck, otherwise you might open up a gap where you could pull in some unfiltered air.

 

Good point....Ive heard of some of the filter coming apart without some internal support....a chunk of 4" PVC or ABS pipe works well too.

 

Mine's held up fine thus far.

Almost 15,000 miles.

I am keeping that PVC idea in the back of my head, just in case notice things getting loose.

I use the BHAF with LarryB's stainless heat shield - unobtrusive and works just fine.

To give the BHAF some support, you can pop the mushroom-shaped screw inserts out of the bottom of the stock airbox, invert them so that the head of the mushroom is at the top and press them over the airbox mounting studs. On my truck, the Jacobs e-brake solenoid mounted on the firewall keeps the BHAF off of the aluminum A/C lines, but if you don't have this, check to be sure that the top of the BHAF isn't touching these lines. You can put a section of rubber fuel line hose, etc. over the aluminum lines to protect them.
