Better Headstuds
I have a question, The old standbye rule I use it that you have to have thread engagement that is twice the width of the fastner, therefore a 12MM stud only has to go into the block 24mm.
Are these new studs longer on the bottom so they could be machined down to 24mm? Or are they already that short?

Since you asked...
I would say for me its not worth it since I dont plan on pulling the head off and on or doing regular re-torques
I would say for the guys that are really putting down the power (600+) and dont want to machine up to the 14mm they would be worth the extra 50% more $$$ but for most of us the current issue ARPs are all thats needed. Doug do you think a few re-torques are a issue with the current ARPs?

I'm wondering if the block will take 160 ft*lbs. When I torqued my ARP's to 125in*lbs (I forgot to read the sheet in the box), it felt like the threads where starting to strip. My block thread depth wasn't consistant from hole to hole but I forgot to chase the holes before installing my head onto my truck. I'm was hoping that Cummins QC is a little better than what I found. My stock camshaft also had a one lobe that was gone. My stock cam was made in Brazil.
This stud looks like it will be built, although initially in very limited quantities. I will get more specs on material and pricing hopefully within the next 7 days. I will also be taking pre-orders for guys that want them..... The first run with no pre-orders will only be around 10-20 sets. So if anyone is really considering these please let me know so we can get the run quantity appropriate.

you know i'm interested after the headache i went through with ARP. especially after breaking one. will post pics when i get a chance. even after retourqing i felt like a couple of them were twisting. i bought a paint marker and will test each one after i put the new gasket on today. it's not a good feeling when you feel that stud twist.
We are taking orders for the special run of ARP Custom Age 625+ 12mm headstuds for the Cummins engine. These are a special order item and will take approximatley 12 weeks to produce. Orders/deposits must be placed by June 2nd to be assured a set. If you are interested please contact PDW prior to this date.

Doug Smith
