yes, the 275's would be cheaper....

however, if you add all this stuff, its going to be quite a while before you can come out on the 1500 bucks youll spend to get it! just take it easier IMO.

Timing box or smarty programmer, fuel additive, and bump up the tire pressure.

I got my best mileage with the old style VanAaken towing module(plug into VP-44 only), 4 inch exhaust and/or lose muffler, air box mods and/or air filter c/o, blocked wastegate, lubricity additive in fuel, synthetic lubricants everywhere, good diesel(they don't make it anymore ), 3.54 axle ratio with stock 265 tires, and keep em aired up, and a shift kit, that should cover most of what I found with my rig.

What are 275's?Mach 1's?
Do they still sell the old Van Akken towing mod?
Would the entry level edge be good for mileage/towing, as well?

275's and mach 1's are injectors, the latter being more expensive and more HP.
im not sure on the van akken, you could probably pick one up in the classifides.
yes the edge EZ would be good, smarty is better.

As stated before other than small things like lube, filters, air pressure, ditching your muffler etc... it is going to take a while to recomp from the $$$ you put out on other mods. I would think bang for the $$$ a Smarty alone would be the route to go. Even then if you gain 1.5 mpg it would take a considerable amount of time to recoup from the expense. Any timing box should show some improvement if you drive like a sane person.

The smarty has a mileage setting which basically cuts all the un needed power to get you the best mileage.

Smarty is $650 (I think, plus it comes with a candy bar) you can get a used EZ for $200, if you watch the classifieds.

They really are two different beasts, not easy to compare. I have never heard anything bad about a 24v Smarty, everybody loves theirs. And the MPG increase with the Smarty seems to be noticable, but not much data on that, because most that mod their trucks aren't doing it for milage, and use the new found power enough to negate all or part of the increase.

By far narrower non aggressive tires will increase your mpgs more than anything you do to the engine.

I like the Formula 1 Mach 1.6 injectors although the Mach 1's work awesome as well. Add a timing program like an Edge EZ, this ususally will add 2-4 mpg. The Smarty works awesome on the fuel saver program but towing is NOT recommended so it is kinda limiting plus power feels way down on that setting.
