Best aftermarket turbo for high elevation?
Ok guys, help me out
Sold my 01.5 6 speed to a buddy of mine in April and he put about 20 some thousand miles on it(truck has around 90k on it). Unfortunately, the turbo just took a dump. Leaking oil and apparently intake manifold is covered in oil(so says a mechanic).
We are in Montana and drive frequently in the 5000-8000 ft range. Bozeman is about 5000 ft. That is were most of the driving occurs.
Whats the best aftermarket turbo for these conditions?
Truck already has a ConOFE clutch, Mach 1.6 injectors, Juice with Attitude, AFE air intake, 4" turbo back straight pipe.
I was thinking Phat Shaft 62 or HTB 62/12. I'm assuming he should be looking at a 62/12 turbo? Best place to buy from?
Truck is Kalispell right now, so if anyone knows a good local place, that would be great.
Thanks guys

Even that turbo may get smokey and warm. I ran a 62/65-12 around Butte with a bit bigger injector and I was a constant smoke show. So, I would not go much bigger.
The flip side is that you have a stick shift and you can keep the motor on boil. So, you may be okay depending on driving style. So, a 14cm housing may even work for you.

I would go with the HTT 62/71/13ss. My brother-in-law (staarma) in Belgrade, MT runs the turbo and has had excellent results. Quick spool up, good for our elevation. I plan on running the same turbo on my 12Valve this spring.
