BD sport shifter install
BD sport shifter install
I just installed the new BD sport shifter today. Install was a breeze, works great. Makes a big differences over the stock unit. Shortens the shifts big time. Makes the trans feel like the one in my mustang.

Re:BD sport shifter install
Have been considering this myself but are concerned about warranty problems. Have asked BD but they do not answer emails. Do you have any feedback on how this may affect warranty? Now that you have seen this kit, in your opinion why would you spend the money on the kit and not just shorten your existing stick, heat and bend it to suit?
Re:BD sport shifter install
I got the shifter from the shop that I work at. I am trying it out to see if it is something we would want to stock www.gdsdieselparts.com As for the warranty I don't see how it will do any damage to the trans but I bet if you have one on your truck and somthing happens to do wrong they will blame it on the shifter. And you can't get the same feel by bending your stick. This kit changes the pivot point of the stick.

Re:BD sport shifter install
Thanks for the info. This is the first I heard that the pivot point was changed. Makes sense tho.
As for warranty, I don't see how it could affect it, but as you say, if anything goes wrong, the mod will be blamed. Can this mod be reversed without any trace if necessary. ie taking the tranni in for waranty problems?
Does the mod move the stick significantly away from the middle seat passengers legs?
Re:BD sport shifter install
It shorted the movement by about the width of the **** in both directions. So it does help for the middle passenger. And it only takes about 30 min to do the swap. So no big deal to pull off for warranty.

OK, I'm almost sold. If you stock them would it be soon and would the price be cheaper than $195?

Re:BD sport shifter install
I'd mentioned the BD shifter in another thread about NV5600 transmission failures, so I'll ask the same question. People there were talking about how the long throw of the stock shifter might cause synchro problems and eventual failure. Could the BD be a cure for that problem with the short stick and the change in the pivot point?

ascraeus
Re:BD sport shifter install
On my dad's vette, we put a new shift **** on the stock shifter. Made the stick to long and it put to much leverage on it. Ended up blowing the 2nd and 3rd gear snychros cause of it. Put a short throw with the stock shift ****, haven't had any trouble since.

I'd rather have a big chrome retangular rod coming thru the floor with the name "HURST" on it. I can't believe they have not made one for these trucks yet.

I guess BD will have to do in the mean time.

Dave
Re:BD sport shifter install
Right after I replied to the Post, I sent an e-mail off to Hurst to see if they did build on for the NV5600 and the Dodge Truck.

No reply yet.

Dave

After two days no reply from BD either. Guess they can't be too hungry for new business.
