bad compression??

when i park my truck facing uphill and leave it in like 2nd or 3rd gear, it slowly rolls backwards. and its not a very steep incline at all. does this mean that iv got leaking compression somewhere? makes me use the parking brake which i does like when its -30 out in case it freezes up.

If your compression is that low, it likely wouldn't run. Most gas engines are only 8-10:1 compression, and they hold trucks fine in gear. Your truck won't run on that low of compression.

I learned to always park in 1st or R and have never had one roll.

The only thing that really holds the truck when in gear with the parking brake off is the friction of the running gear multiplied by the gears along the way. Not the compression. The compression easily escapes out of the engine-just not very quickly. That's why you can turn the engine over with a breaker bar.

The compression sneaks past the rings just as blowby does, and that's only the cylinders that happen to be HOLDING compression at any given time. IE most are not on a compression stroke at any given time.
