Autometer Pyrometer in! Needle Sticks...
I just got done installing my Autometer ultralite pyrometer and took the truck for test drive. Unfortunately, the needle sticks a little. For example, it would suddenly jump from 400 to 600 degrees. But it does respond well, just not smooth. I'm guessing the gauge is bad?? Anyone else with an Autometer experience this?
Now as far as egt's... My truck is completely stock. Accelerating a little fast from a red light to beat normal traffic, with the boost going up to 15 psi, I can reach 825 degrees pretty easy. I hit 600 degrees with no problem, even driving it easy. Then later as I let the truck idle to cool off before I shut it off, it took about 2 minutes for it to go from 400 to 300 degrees. I have the probe mounted pre-turbo, about 2" towards the engine from the gasket where the exhaust manifold connects to the turbo. Also, I put the probe a little closer to the front of the engine (piston #1). These sound right? The needle was pretty responsive. Got to 800 degrees in a few seconds when I got on it...

I have autometer ultralite gauges in my truck but didn't have problems with the pyrometer. I had problems with my boost gauge and called them directly in which they replaced no questioned asked. Check to make sure all of your wiring is grounded correctly. If so I would exchange the gauge for another one. Like I said above I have had only one issue and it was with my boost gauge sticking.
Another thing is does it work correctly at night? Should not matter with the proyometer but with my boost and the temps in the truck were about 112 degrees it would stick but since I got a the new one never a problem.
Call Autometer Directly - if you have a receipt they will do a full no question asked replacement.

Yeah, grounds seem to be ok and it still sticks in cooler ambient temps. I'll call Autometer tomorrow. It'll be good if they could just replace the gauge like you said. I don't feel like pulling the probe out, which I think is fine. But the thing is, I bought it off ebay. It was brand new, so I hope Autometer doesn't give me cr@p about that...
Here is the e-mail when I received when I sent my Boost Gauge back:

I have the same problem with mine, same gauge as you!!! It's done it since day one......I've just gotten used to it. I was gonna send mine back until they said " please send your receipt ".........
I don't have mine anymore!!
It reads accurate, but doesn't do a nice smooth sweep, jumps from temp to temp.......little annoying but like I said I just got used to it.

Alright got a free factory re-furbished replacement for my damaged gauge straight from Autometer. Great customer service! However, they forgot to send the little, black light bulb fixture with the new gauge... I emailed them about it. So now I gotta wait for that to arrive, if they send it

Now I think my boost gauge is starting to stick. Nothing major. But when I drive the truck for the first time of the day, the needle won't show 2-3 psi until I hit 4-5 psi. Then it starts working normal...
