Automatic Tranny

The tranny in my truck is the A518. Went down to the local tranny shop and talked to them about beefin it up. They told me that I don't need a valve body unless I'm pullin a RV or towin heavy loads. Just need a Billet Converter. Does that sound right?

Re:Automatic Tranny

The TC is definately the weak link, however line pressures are big too which will only come from valve body modifications/replacement. Also how can anyone tell trans internal condition without inspection. You are going to spend about $900 + labor for a TC why not do it all the way? There also is a lot of different opinions about whether or not TC even needs to be billet. My DTT isn't and I'm lovin it.
Tim

Lil Red:

I disagree with what your local transmission told you
about "beefing-up" your Dodge transmission. If you
decide to do it, do it as a unit, that being, better
TC, valve body, heavier clutch packs and billet input/
output shafts if you are doing any racing or heavy
towing.

I have the ATS TripleLok Stage IV transmission in my
96' and am very happy with it! It has the "billet cover"
as you they told you about, but also has 119 square
inches of lockup clutch surface area versus 34 for the
stock converter. If you are interested in their tranny
you can call them toll free at: 1-800-949-6002. Or their
website address is: www.ATSdieselperformance.com.
The website has alot of colored pictures and good
explanations about their products.

Good luck!

--------
John_P
Re:Automatic Tranny

Red, I have talked to Bill K., at DDT/www.dieseltrans.com, and gotten alot of info. His comments go along with the aformentioned posts. I also contacted a Trans Co called Hughes in Az., 1-800-274-7223, they sent me a Catalogue/Brochure that really covers the subject. It is a family operation, prices comparable to DDT. I like something in my hand so I can really asorb what I'm being told. So I reccomend contacting them for that reason. Daryl
