Auto Start

Crime Stopper offers a alarm with an auto start for diesel engines. Do you guys think that this is a good idea? It is programmable to monitor glow plug light or start times 10,20, or 30 second delays. Or should I just get up and start it like I'm supose to?

Re:Auto Start

Auto start is OK, but the real issue is extended idleing at low rpm when cold.

See this thread for more info.

Re:Auto Start

I am contemplating an Espar heater for my truck. I'd like the idea to have a warm engine and a warm cab at startup, and this at the touch of a button while sipping my morning coffee. My neighbours would hate me for idling that diesel more than 3 minutes at night. ( Well they do hate me for even starting it)
Experiences and opinions anybody?

AlpineRAM

Re:Auto Start

If it's plugged in all night, the grid heater probabaly wont even come on. A couple hours bfore startup, a quick cycle maybe. I can't plug in at work, if I get a lunch break, the GH won't cycle after sitting 4-5 hours, and it's been cold here. If I miss a lunch, then it will come on when it's time to go home. I don't think 8-9 hours is long enoupg to really be concerned about a dry start. When it's time to go, I figure it's gotta idle high anyway, might as well be moving and just drive easy. I do try to warm it up when it's slow enouph for me to go start it.

Had a remote start on my 97 Z-71. It was nice for a month, till it . Took it to another installer for repair, didn't trust the first guy anymore. Was told to pull it if it was bad, or it could kill the tranny or computer. Thought he was just trying to sell me a new one. Guess what... bought a $1500 tranny, not counting installing it myself.
