I have to disagree there. For just over $2,000 you can have a just about indestructible clutch & flywheel. That wouldn't even get you a sniff of a DTT that will hold comparable power.

Either way, the autos are sooooooo much nicer to operate, that I will give you.

Cost was ultimately the reason I chose the manual trans for my truck. I bought my truck having already read up on mods and bombing and such a bit, and even though we didn't yet know that the HOs were not capable of making as much power as the SO trucks.

At the time, I could have paid $1200 for an auto trans that would have required another four grand or so to hold the 500hp I was hoping to achieve.

Or, I could buy the NV5600 which was building an enviable repututation for strength for a mere $800, then make it practically bulletproof with another $900 or so.

I've never owned a diesel truck with an auto trans, and the factory CTDs I drove that had them performed so abysmally that I couldn't stand the idea of paying so much money for such poor performance.

I'll be the first to whine about slugging in big city traffic with my 6er, but I rarely drive in those conditions. For anything OTHER than a rolling parking lot, the 6er is a dream trans to drive with perfect gear splits and smooth performance--- even at subzero temps.

I'm very happy with my NV5600.

I love my 6er, and the misses dosen't have a prob with it either. I don't drive it daily, or in a lot of traffic though. I was really tired of paying for auto rebuilds.

Big DBlue, you've owned sticks before, and even your sig shows a 6spd you've owned. As you stated, for pleasure, if you want the cheapest pleasure, then go with a 5 speed. You say your not towing, and again for pleasure and cost, go 5 speed.
Living where you live, I don't think you have too much stop and go city traffic to worry about.
Any stock auto behind a 12V or a 24V sucks, so you know it wouldn't be a pleasure to drive and would you want to spend the money to make it a pleasure to drive.
