auto rebuild
auto rebuild
just bought a factory service manual (havent gotten it yet) and i am going to be rebuilding my tranny in the spring.
i was reading in a post the other day that there are some special tools required for rebuilding the overdrive unit. what exactly do i need for special tools?
plan on going with goerend triple disc vb and his rebuild kit as well, and hopefully a billet input if $$ allows.
any other advice. this will be my first rebuild and i'm going to have a friend thats rebuilt 2 allisons (dmax's) helping me out. i personally have a lot of wrenching experience, just this is my first vehicle with an auto tranny.

factory service manual is the way to fly. If you've been into any torqueflights at all the 47re will be easy for you to figure out. The manual will also show/tell you the tools required.

I'm not the "tranny man" at work, but it was handy having access to all the tools when I built mine. I enjoy building them, but not at work.

just went thru my 47re this last thur/fri I used intermediate shaft for spline alinement. made 3 leg pusher for spring compression. used straghtedge and caliper to set clearance and don't forget to add gasket when figuring clearance. had 228000 mi and clutchs and steels were good but changed anyway w/bw and put put transgo TFOD Diesel kit in it. t/c was bypassing which is common. replaced t/c with single billit w/welded center and needle bearings front and back to eliminate inturnal bypassing.
If you don't feel like buying the manual or need some extra info, I have access to AllData Pro and can cut and copy some pages for you. Just PM me if you need anything. This is strictly hush hush though.
