Anyone running 37 or 38 inch tires?
Is anyone running a tire that is 37 or 38 inches? What did you have to do to get them to fit the truck? Do you have any pictures?
Thanks,
Mc
Thanks,

Cowhand..
AWESOME truck in his photo gallery..., Id say a 4-6 inch lift, the right width rims, the right shock absorbers as well, and dual stabilizers, either way u go, ur gonna need custom leaf springs, or blocks to get the truck that high...

Thanks for the compliment there 007
Look for at least 5+" to get them to fit, maybe another inch or two so they don't rub. You're gonna need to address the track bar and steering eventually as well.
And the 3.54's will have to go...
What do you intend to use the truck for and how much are you willing to spend?

Just starting to look into it. I use it on the beach, so I want bigger and I tow-so yes I will be looking for 4.10's. Although I figure with 38's and 3.54's I would have a 200 MPH truck
Seriously though, what do you recommend?

If I don't end up using my truck for towing there is a small part of me that wants to do a levelling kit and major trimming to get tall & narrow 38" tires on my truck. Using narrow tires will really help. A friend of mine used to run Q-78 Buckshots on his 1500 Ram with NO lift at all and they didn't rub. Those measured a true 35" tall but only aprox. 8-9" wide. A true 35" is close to an advertised 36" tire (sizes usually run aprox. 1" under the advertised size). So I figure 1. My trucks sits a couple inches higher than his stock-for-stock. 2. The levelling kit will give the front another 2", which is where the tight clearances are. 3. Narrow tires will clear the control arms and inner fenders better. And 4. Major trimming should take care of the other problems.
Just some offhand thoughts, nothing I really looked at closely. I was just thinking though that a $500 diesel would make a great off road beater, low and wide with great grunt. It all depends on what happens in my life over the next several months.

I have 40" tires with pretty much a 7" lift that was a 9" but now I have bent springs but the tires still clear fine. I did run 3.54s with my 38s for a while and it wasn't too bad. 4.10s will be perfect though and that is what I ended up swapping to. There are pics in my gallery if you are interested.

4.56's aren't what I'd call crazy, but yeah, I'm running 4.10's. 4.88's or 5.29's would be crazy.....unless you're running 53" Michelins
McMopar, I could suggest a few things, but my best advice would be to stay away from the big manufacturer off the shelf stuff like Skyjunker, Traildisaster, Rough/Tough Country, ProCramp, etc.
Call David at DT Products, he should have his 5" kit out by now.

I just thought theyd be more suited to better turn 38 inch meats on steel rims or even aluminum,
Skyjunker... I have not had any problems with my kit, i broke the dual shock supports but that is it, welded it up right away and no problems. I have called Skyjacker before and they stand behind their products, but i have a mild lift n e ways...

A year ago I had a Skyjunker 4.5" kit on my truck, along with the death wobble, horrible road manners and alignment that would last more than a few weeks.
I'm happy to report that now I have none of the above, and with the exception of my shocks I have less than $2000 into it. Throw in a set of Bilstein 5100's and you're still just a few bucks over $2200.
This includes arms, coils, track bar, x-over steering and shock towers. Take $200 off of the above figure if you go with stock style upper shock mounts.
I haven't had an alignment since March, haven't rotated the tires in more than 8K miles, and the fronts look better than the rears. Tracks straight, feels tight and not even the slightest hint of DW.
I'm down on the manufactured kits because you guys can do better for the same money as the upper end off the shelf kits, and the beauty is you can do it one piece at a time if necessary. The other big advantage to going with a professional fabricator in that the parts are made to work on your truck specifically , not a one size fits all.
Besides, I live in CA, with a wife and two kids living on my (one) income. I'm in construction. I ain't exactly rich, or even well off for that matter. I did it all on the Uncle Sam Savings Program. I put in my withdrawal slip by April 15 every year and in about 3 weeks the money shows up in my account.
