Any good transmission builders in Calgary?

I'm getting my transmission built and was going to drive to DTT in BC but just changed jobs and work out of town and my time off isn't enough to drive 12 hrs to get it done. Anyone know of a place in Calgary that can do it for a reasonable price?

Have you tried calling DTT and seeing if they have any builders out there?

I was talking to them a while back and they have no one close to me(them being the closest), they will sell me the converter and the rebuilt kit because I already have the valve body but I just don't have the time to drive out there.

NADP is only 3 hrs away but i've heard mixed reviews on them and I might be able to drive to them as long as they don't need my truck for long peroid of time. I've also heard they have their own converters and also use suncoast, can somone clairify this?

DTT is in Abbotsford, BC. I'm in Calgary and it's about a 12 hour drive there get it built and drive back, and that won't work with my schedule.

Find the time and drive down there and get it done.

That way there is no BS and you know it's done right. I'm sure if you arrange it ahead of time with a good bit of notice, they will get you in and out ASAP.

I am going threw the same scenario right now with a cylinder head that needs replacing. All the shops I talk to say "bring it in, we'll look at it" or "it shouldn't take that long" Called Mark at PDR and he flat out responded "it will be this much, take 2 days, done"

Nothing against local shops but once your truck is apart, your at their mercy. I work construction and time is money as well as my truck makes my money so I can't have it sitting.

Just my opinion.

I called NADP and they don't rebuild just install new and said that they have a heavy hauler 400 or somthing for $4400 but I just want a rebuild, and a complete rebuild minus the billet shafts and VB I already have won't even be closr to that price, guess i'll have to try and make the trip. I'm also debating on just a TC because my trans isn't slipping and is working great for a stocker and that can br done in the city, I don't know.

I looked into this as well, to ship a tranny Calgary from DTT would be $300. Cheaper than driving. In the end I just decided to do the TC, VB and pan. All that shipped to my door WITH core charges was just under $2000, I'm hoping it comes this week so I can do it over the long weekend. Not holding my breath as they said they were really backed up.

Is that $2000 CDN, if so thats not a bad price, I already have the VB and Pan, Did they have a problem selling you just the TC and VB?Are you doing the install your self?

Yes thats installing myself, no problem selling seperate, $2000 includes shipping and core charges.

However I just called and my order is delayed atleast two weeks so I may have to cancell it and buy eleswhere as I leave for a trip first week in May. I had planned to take next week off work and do the install.

I hate delays, I was thinking about ordering from Goerends and just getting regular USPS so there will be no brokerage fees from UPS. I think he includes the seals for the price of shipping and the 1-2 apply lever for $30 (ithink) DTT is closer but I hate waiting.

when my tranny took a dump, I just put my truck on a train and sent to PDR. I think that it cost me about $400 to ship the truck to PDR door. I would get DTT to do the tranny, if I was in your shoes. If you do the install yourself and have no problems your happy. You might have issues is if you start having tranny problems down the road. I'm not sure on NADP tranny, I've heard good and bad. If you could you should drive a truck with that shops tranny in it. The DTT shifts harder than most and they typically use a single lock-up clutch TC. I rather have a higher stall multidisk TC. It will help you truck spool-up faster coming out off the line. If I was to do a high end tranny again I would look into doing conversion to a DTT Allison 6 speed. At least you have best tranny on the planet for your truck, in IMO. It might be more money, but the drool factor. I also think that DTT has the best deal on warranty, three years, unlimited mileage. My tranny only had 20k, parts limited replacement. I found this out after I paid for it. No much of a warranty.

I hear Marc at Calgary Transmission is a good guy to deal with. Never had any personal dealings, but thats the word on the net. Wouldn't hurt to give him a call and see what he has to say.

Check with a CAA Tow Truck Company, they tow them the most and will know which ones are the best to deal with, and if you are a CAA member, some tranny shops w2ill be CAA Certified and they have usually guarantee better and discount on price if CAA Customer! I was a Tower for 7 years and towers now the garages that scam and the ones that are good.
