another clutch ?
another clutch ?
well guys rather than Hijack another thread and turn it all around I just made a new one, so here goes . I am some what in the same shoes here on what clutch to get for my beast, look at my tag, I am planing on adding a smarty to the mix and turbo upgrades, last dyno I got 335 hp 745tq and it started sliping a 1/4 way into it so I belive the hp is alot more. I was thinking about going with the southbend FE , but after a call to south bend they said thats not a good clutch for towing trailers , ex horse trailers, they said it's to graby at take off, and backing with trailer imposable do to jumpyness. they want to set me up with the "SBC DD Street 3600 lb. Lever type pressure plate with light pedal pressure, using performance organic clutch facings, 600 hp " who is running this and do they think it's the right way to go. I want some thing in there that will last and that I will get my moneys worth. what kinda life are you getting out of them. My truck is my daily driver, to work and back , un it gets towing duty once a week with two horse trailer, then once to every to weeks with the old steel 4 horse gooseneck trailer, also 30 ft 5th wheel duty in summer. the 105 gal take on the back is alway half full or full so thats extra 400-840 about pounds there. thanks in advance looking forward to your advice and ideas.
Ron, I guess it is a little stiffer, but it doesn't bother me at all. I like the feel of it better. Can't be much more than stock. I've driven other cars and trucks with stiffer clutches by far.
first off bump bump this to the top, looks Like two diffrent veiws so far love to hear from some more of ya, I think I may give valair cluch a call and see what they have to say . agin looking very forward to your replys , it would be nice if anyone in MN would speak up and maybe let me take a test drive in there's to see the feelig of the clutch thanks, Cole
I'd stick with organic or ceramic buttons to keep the smoothness. Plate load is simply a matter of how much you (and your hydraulics) can stand. More is always better from the clutch's perspective.
I love my FE, but SBC is correct to recommend against it for towing. It's not jerky the way I use it (always in or out), but I don't have a need to slip it much.
