another annoying Question?

What is considered "normal" for a stock 1996 auto as far as boost and egt's go? I would like to base line this truck first and then see where im going and in which direction. I have checked the search and found liots of stuff but not exactly what im looking for yet. Thanks!

I would install a set of gauges. Even if you do not do anything to the truck, they are a good source of information as you drive.

DO your guages first, then you'll know. EGTs depend on your foot. ie slow acceleration or flooring it along with duration. If you're looking for max EGT, you need to install a set of gauges so you know for your truck. I had already monkeyed with mine before putting gauges in by sliding the stock plate foward. They can get hot. I have a stock sized clear thru exhaust, afe filter, 100 plate in mid placement with 3k govn'r springs. The springs allow the truck to fule longer, which is the real trick. The stock set up drains fuel at 50 mph or so, just as you're getting on the freeway.

The govn'r spring kit did mess up my shifting for some reason. The truck doesn't like to shift. I have to let off. Not sure how many experience this.

Hey thanks for the response. The reason i was asking is i installed the boost gauge yesterday and i am installing the pyro today. I have done nothing to this truck yet, and i dont think anyone else has either. I just wanted to know if like 17 lbs. of boost was ok? also what should an egt read whats low normal and wheres danger? Also when you do start turning stuff up, Where is a range you should shoot for? Thanks for the help.Out!

The factory wastegate is set to around 18-20 pounds boost,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, as far as EGTs i am not sure, but i would say you would not get over 1100 i bet, I cant tell as my 96 didnt have guages till I did all my mods, and with my mods now I have the wastegate set to around 36 pounds,, any more than that and the stock turbo isnt doing anything but blowing hot air, EGTS now can easily hit 1300 or more unless you watch it under load

to get more boost you need more fuel, and Air,,, and the plate will give you more fuel,, Now what that boost elbow does, is cut pressure to the waste gate actuater, and thus you should be able to get 30 plus pounds of boost,, I do have more mods than you, but you will get the bug and have to keep on bombing the truck to get more and more power :-) I run stock turbos on both trucks, one day soon they will be upgraded to, as everyone knows, the more the HP the more the fun ,, oh and not to forget,, the more the fun, the more the fuel it burns to

Look up BHAF filters,, it will give you the air you need and along with the 4 in exhaust all will help you
