Amsoil Questions

I'm looking into switching to Amsoil next oil change. For you guys running it, are you using Amsoil's filter system or the stock oil filter? How about oil change intervals? Thanks

Re:Amsoil Questions

I use Fleetgaurd Stratofor oil filters that I buy from Geno's. I change my filter every 5k and oil every 10k!

Re:Amsoil Questions

I have been using AMSOIL for the last six years, and I use it in all our vehicals. AMSOIL makes very good oil and air filters, if this is your preferance, then that would not be a bad one. The other filter I would consider is FLEETGUARD microglass. Both are very good, I have been using the amsoil brand filters for the last 4-5 years, and have been very satisfied.
On oil change intervals, I change my filters every 2000 miles, and my oil once a year. The oil might not break down like conventional oils, but it does get just as dirty, so oil filter changes are key. I do not use my dodge that much, so the once a year oil change works for me, you might consider a spring and fall change, it depends on the miles you drive. I have AMSOIL in everything we have, from diesels to sports cars, and from atv's to lawnmowers, I like the results I have gotten. My wifes car (gas) I change the oil in the spring and fall, and spin on a new filter every 2000 miles, same for the other vehicals. The filter replacement is simple and really only takes about 5 minuets to do. Just wize one off, wize one on, and top off. I use series 3000 in all the deisels, series 2000 in all the gas, as well as gear lube. I have been using there diesel fuel additive and cetane boost, and very much like the results. When pulling a load I see lower EGT's and better fuel economy. Also I have not had any fuel system related problems, and when I get my EPA check, I am consistantly low on all the readings. Hope this information helps you with your synthetic questions, one last thought, I would not use any synthetic untill I had atleast 5000 miles on the engine. And if I was switching to synthetic with a higher mileage engine, I would use AMSOIL'S ENGINE FLUSH TO REMOVE BUILT OUT SLUGG, OR DIRT.

Re:Amsoil Questions

Like Y-not, I run Amsoil in everything, including the lawnmower. I run Amsoil filters also. I change my filter at 12.5K. I have not put that many miles on my Dodge with it in there, only about 16K, but I have put 132K on my 1986 BMW gasser with 25K oil changes and 12.5K filter changes. It has 307K on it now. Engine runs great, burns NO oil and I drive it like I stole it every time I get in it. ;D

Re:Amsoil Questions

Thanks for the info and advice. I checked out the Amsoil website and saw that their oil filters remove particles down to 5 microns. Does anybody know how the Fleetguard Microglass compares?

Re:Amsoil Questions

Check the amsoil site again. I think the bypass filtration systems remove particles down to 5 microns but the full flow filters have a different rating. I may be wrong but I used Amsoil for a while and seems like that was the rating on the bypass filter.

FYI,

Amsoil Full Flow Filters are made out of a synthetic/cullose/glass blend that is 96% effecient at around 18-20 microns.

The Amsoil bypass filter has an abolute filtration rating(98%) at 3 microns and a nominal filtration of 1 micron. The by-pass filter is capable of removing particles at 1/10th micron.

I think that you will find that most Full Flow filters on the lower end can only filter to 25-30 microns effeciently.

High end filter, like Amsoil, Mobil 1, baldwin, fleetguard and more effecient, but for a Full flow filter your still only talking 18-20 microns.

With the Amsoil Full Flow filter only and the engine oil 15w40 AME you can do 5,000 change filters, then at 10,000 change both oil and filter(Conservative) If you want to go longer. 7500 miles, change filter and change oil and filter at 15,000.

With the Amsoil by-pass filter. Most folks do 7500 for the full flow, and 15,000 for the by-pass.(conservative) you can adjust this according to your analysis as well. I've had success with cusotmers doing 10,000 on the Full Flow and 20,000-30,000 on the by-pass. Oil changes are according to Oil analysis with many customers doing 50,000 to 100,000 without changing the oil.

BTW, I can sell direct to you even in canada. I have pricing for Canada and shipping will come from one of 2 distribution centers in Canada, one is in Edmonton and Toronto. So there is no tarrifs on the orders.

Your best pointer would be to call me LOL,

Depends on how much you want to spend and how far you want to go, You can do it one step at a time or do it all at once.

You will probably want to do an engine flush with that many miles. 75w140 in the rear, 75w90 in the front diff, ATF in the transfer case, I'm not sure what model trans.
15w40 AME in the engine with an SDF 80 filter.
Hope this helps.

Re:Amsoil Questions

Thanks again all for the replies and Michael for the price quote. Your prices are much better than the local dealer in town here.
