It looks like a stainless system is not much more than an aluminized steel exhaust .
Any problems with one or the other?
Any companies to stay away from?

Any issues with the systems on E-bay?

The stainless would last longer. I'd get it if it's not much more.

 

i got the aluminized, a system off ebay...it was alot cheaper than most kits, and its fit was perfect.

 

If your concerened about rust, don't buy the 409SS. I have it, it looks like monkey ****!!! Save yourself some heart ache and either buy the expensive polished 309 or the cheaper aluminized. Oh and btw, I'm talking about the MBRP I have, hint, hint!!!!

 

I had a 4" aluminized from Summit Racing and after about 4 years and 60K it had some holes in it near the spare tire. I think the fact that the truck sometimes sits a lot contributed to it and I've been making sure to drive it the day after it rains in order to the underside out thoroughly. I replaced that exhaust with an ebay 5" aluminized from markoidaho and I am VERY happy with the system, it's actually quieter than my old 4" one. His 4" uses a similar style muffler to his 5" so I'd imagine the 4" from him would be very quiet but I don't know for sure.

How bad does the 409 stainless rust???

 

My dad has had his 409 SS MBRP for about 4 years, and it has no rust. My 409 SS Silverline does not have any rust either. Go for the stainless if you plan on keeping the truck for 10+ years.

 

If you like surface pit rust, buy the MBRP!!!

 

Is that the aluminized or the 409 SS?

 

Either or will do it, except the aluminized will rust out.

 

Ive also been told stainless will crack if it gets cold enough.Anyone verify that?

 

MBRP 409 SS is junk!!! Mine looks horrible and my brothers aluminum looks like new. The cool dual kits we have are identical on the same type of trucks. Tried to get some kind of warranty from the MBRP rep at August Blackout in Edmonton and he wouldn't bugde. He said "that's what 409 SS will do, it will pit rust." He also said "well you can clean it off with some steel wool when the rust appears". Like I want to crawl unser my truck with steel wool every 3 weeks to clean up rust spots, I told him to get bent and walked away!!! Now that's customer service!!!

 

so far my aluminized (markoidaho on ebay) is still in good shape... i had been thinnging about scotchbriting it, and painting it with that black heat resistant stove paint.....has anyone done that? i would think it would help project it.???

 

Stove paint won't work on our exhausts, just too much heat. I think the last stove paint I had around here was good to about 1000*?

Anything will crack if you get it cold enough. That's just how things works. Electrons stop moving as fast as they do at room temperature, and the materials get brittle.
