Al's liner, step by step!
Al's liner, step by step!
I started sanding this evening & I'm about ready to get the masking on. Tomorrow is another day, hoping to spray it in the next day or so...depending on what time I get out of work.
Here is a picture of my bed before I got started. [after removing the drop in liner]

I'm sanding with a D.A. sander using 36 grit & hand sanding the tight areas.

I just need to sand the tailgate real fast & mask it off, then I'll be shooting Al's.

Well guys, It started storming here today & we got winds 70mph. The power started flashing on/off & I decided to wait to spray. I did finish sanding & masking though, just gotta wipe & spray now.

2 gal shouldn't be too bad. I regret only using a gallon when I did mine, but I was broke, and needed somethin. I tried the duplicolor stuff. Not sure what the hardness of Al's is compared to that, but it's chipping like crazy on my truck.
duplicolor and herculiner suck for the bed. AL's liner and SEM bed liner are really close to what the big companys spray. you actually have to mix the catalyst and stuff unlike dupli/herc that just come in one can. i put herc on my rockers but i'd never put it in my bed. i had an 87 chevy i sprayed the entire truck with the SEM kit and i mixed metallic silver paint with it. it turned out awesome, and i here AL's is close to the same thing. looks good so far!!
I am impressed!!!! I am really happy with the way it turned out. I spoke with Al's liner today & they told me to spray it at the highest psi my compressor could keep up with. I sprayed my bed at 125psi & held the gun 3ft away. It has a great texture & very nice color match [atleast under the garage lights LOl]. The pictures are loading now, but here is a teaser.
I cleaned the bed with wax & grease remover, then laquer thinner. Then I sprayed etching primer on the bare metal before applying the Al's primer. I color matched the liner using 1 cup of automotive pigment to 1 gallon of Al's. I coated the gun with vasoline & started spraying. I am very happy with the texture & finish!!
