which allison for a convertion?
well I am gojn to be into the money a little (sho am I kidding a lot better) than what I am now, shortly
I want to convert to an auto
I was thinking (unless someone knows different(and I would enjoy the help))
that an allsion would be the way to go-
which would be the best and who make the adapters and electronic controls to run one?
and what do some of you guys use with a 5 or 6 speed auto as far as shifting options do?

if your set on the ally, id say do your best to get the new and improved version. get it with a stand alone computer and youll have a ton of cool features. not to mention two overdrives.

The only Allison I'd consider would be a 2000 series.
I still think the build RE advice is the best advice. Its really an excellent trans once you eliminate a few points of failure (47 or 48 RE is what I'd go with).
Good luck

A Dodge 47 or 48RE will probably be an easier swap than an Allison. A solidly built unit from ATS, DTT, Goerend, or Suncoast will probably be about $4000-5000, if you get all the options. Don’t forget that, like the Allison, the 47/48RE is an electronically controlled transmission; so you will need to get the factory Dodge computer (PCM) and wiring harness/sensors to control it (assuming you don’t have it already in your Ford). I don’t know how much an Allison, with its stand alone controller would run, along with any adapter plates, etc.
Also, the Allison is a pretty big and heavy transmission, is it going to fit?
If you do go with the Dodge transmissions, both US Gear and Gear Vendors make auxiliary overdrives, they cost about $3000. I wish I had an auxiliary overdrive for my ’01 Dodge, it has 4.10 gears and it spins pretty fast at highway speeds.

i just used the stock dodge linkage and modified it. i can put it in all the gears except for first. If i really wanted to, I could do that too. It works great right now. It is exactly like the stock used to be, the right throw and everything.
