airbox replacement?

I run high EGT's with my fiver in tow uphill. I still have the stock airbox, but use a washable AFE Proguard 7 oilable intake filter. I read that the stock airbox is good to 500 HP and I don't think I am anywhere near that. Any ideas/opinions on what I need for an airbox & filter?

the best way to control egt's is to shift down when it's too high

change the edge to a smarty jr and set it on economy. you went to big with the injectors, the airbox and filter will do nothing.

I agree with Carl48...intake won't do much. What turbo are you running? How much boost are you seeing? Exhaust (4 in.)? Look into a Snow performance system.

i doubt an airbox upgrade would change anything. if you want to do one though . . . just remove the box, retain the tube and put a BHAF on the end of the tube where the box would have been . . .

that will make it worse. the hot underhood air reduces turbo efficiency just stay stock.

I have been running a BAHF for a couple of years or just shy of it. I can say without a doubt that my turbo spools better after I put the BAHF in. I keep it out in the open covered with a red prescreening filter (that is what they call it). I have yet to have a problem with it.

Maybe it is because of the K&N filter I had been using prior. I found a little oil film on the inside of my turbo and that is when I dumped the K&N and went with the BAHF. YMMV

Down shifting is the answer.

The stock air box's flow pretty well. I found out the hard way about after market CAF's.

Opening up the stock to draw air outside the engine compartment helps.

opening up the exhaust helps too

i doubt it is a noticable difference. the air gets super heated going through the turbo anyway . . . any residual engine/exhaust heat warming the air underhood is neglibable when you consider how much it heats up going through the turbo

i see your point - but i don't think it's worth buying an aftermarket CAI (i did, but that was only after my first couple months of diesel power before i got onto the forums and found GOOD advice!)

you will gain more airflow with a simple BHAF, but the engine bay air temps may be slightly higher than retaining the stock setup.

stock: - possibly cooler air, a little less of it
BHAF: - more air, possibly a bit warmer

Thanks for all the replies. I think for now I am gonna stick with the stock air intake.
