air filter
I have been looking into the K&N performance kit and the only thing I see is a peice of pipe and a round filter that take the place
of the stock box. I went and bought a round filter that has a lip on it and a pvc connection and bolted it to the stock intake boot.
Everything fit tight and bolted up perfect. Is there any reason this setup won't work? Any advice you guys have would be great .
I know in 2nd creeping along the turbo has a awesome sound .
Thanks again for the advice.

Your opening up a can with this post! I use a K&N and like it have no dirt on the turbo and it work great, but I sure there are some that will say otherwise. you might find the silicone and oil analysis thing come up ..... again.
i'll second that. let's see some pictures of this set up. i've asked about this type of set up before and me thinks me started a water war
but folks either get over that stuff or they stay mad a while
these motors suck a hell of a lot of air any way you look at it. check your inlet and piping for crud when you service...

Sounds like a BHAF (Big Honkin Air Filter).
Here's my setup.
I chose the Fleetgaurd version (# AH19037)
BHAF Part Numbers from Tech Facts
I used the template found in Tech Facts to make the heatshield/mount.
BHAF Heatshield Template
(FYI, the guy that built my mount put the hose clamp brackets backwards, they should face away from each other instead of towards each other)
Fastened the filter to it with a couple hose clamps
(2 attached to each other, as I couldn't fine one big enough to do the job)
Covered it with an water resistant Outerwears Prefilter (www.outerwearsracing.com, call them tell them it's for whatever brand of BHAF you choose and they should have one in stock)

Thats pretty much the same setup I did, my filter is not that big around but I think it might be longer. I have pictures but I'm having trouble figuring out how to attach them. Im not a computer whiz. Thanks for the info.

not starting a war here...just stating what i found out today. i had my kdp killed today ( thanks dave ) and while i was there he had an extra bhaf laying around. we removed my k/n and the air box and installed the bhaf. although the thing looks cool sitting there i noticed no increase in turbo noise.
i was hoping i would cause i love to hear that turbo scream. i put the k/n back on. anyway like i said im not saying any1 is right or wrong about the bhaf im just telling what i noticed today.... good luck, scott

I have used both the K&N drop in filter and now a BHAF.....the K&N served me well for 2 years and I had no problems (oil samples) but found some restriction with air flow when I needed max power (mountain grades towing)
I now have a BHAF and it seems to do a better job
Cost wise both filters cost about the same but I feel the BHAF flows more air and helps EGT in a heavy pull more so then a K&N

the bhaf flows a little more air than the drop ins but both are really to restrictive for the cummins.you want maximum airflow?go for the afe megacannon, nothing else even comes close.the only set up i havent tried is the scotty2 and per my conversation with rod,the filters are on backorder and he wont have any for 3 weeks.you could just but you an afe 24-91002 for $84 and install it like you did yours though.thats the replacement filter for the megacannon. if your k&n you installed is not in the 13 inch long range,it wont be flowing enough either.all my opinions are based on testing with a flowmeter, not seat of the pants.but as for seat of the pants, throttle response was alot better with the afe than the others.
