Air Box
Air Box
Going to purchase an air box and wanted some opinions from the pro's. What would be the best for the money. Going to change my turbo from 9cm to the 12 cm. Finally got the coins together. All suggestions appreciated.

Unless you're driving an 03. Then we'd prefer that you install the Ram Air III for the 2003

Dumb question of the day

How does everyone think the Scotty flows more air? Wouldn't it be the same as putting the little tube from the inner fender to the stock air box?

I know I have a lot to learn so please be gentle with me

Re:Air Box
You forgot about the 4 1/2 inch hole into the cowl area.
The Scotty is not only about "More Air", It's also all about......... (gotta say it)
CooOOooOOooOOooL Air ;D
It doesn't pull air from the hot area under the hood.

Re:Air Box
Well I didn't forget about it. I just can't see making an unessesary hole in my truck. My argument was that just replacing the stocker with a Scotty, doesn't look as if it'd change anything (more air, cooler temps, etc.). What is the benefit without drilling a big hole?

I'm not saying the Scotty is junk or anything. I just would like to know what makes it so much better than the stock box, before I drop that kinda coin on air system.

There are a lot of people that doubt how good it works.
Believe me if the stock box or any other system worked as well as this, I would be using the 'other' system.
Heres some info...think back to the reverse cowl induction cars like the Chevelle. At the bottom of the windshield there is a positive air pressure area forcing into the cowl.
IF you are running stock or near stock power...a factory air box is fine. However, once you start going over 300HP, you need more air and the Scotty does that...and its cooler outside air, not underhood air like 'other' aftermarket intakes can ingest.
So far the more power and load we throw at this system, the more effective it is.
I understand your concern and questions.
One thing I still do not understand is why there are some people out there that have never tried the Scotty II nor have they been in a truck with one and they STILL say it does not work like we and many many other people have reported.
I have often offered up the Scotty II for testing to the nay sayers and I rarely...very rarely get a reply via PM or email.
Go figure.
Sorry for the rant about that...it just baffles me how someone can comment on a products effectiveness and have never used it.
I am not implying this about you.
Without the hole you will still see better EGT reduction then a stock box...as long as you have at least 300HP or better. Most folks report 100-175F from stock air intake on 300-325 HP trucks with just the fender inlet in use.
I'd like to give another comparison here.
Why do people drop $400.00 or more on a four inch exhaust system for 50-75F EGT reduction but they are hesistant to spend half of the $400.00 to realize much more effective EGT reduction?
Of course one does have to address the exhaust after about the same level of HP where the Scotty II works...simply to assist in getting the air out more easily.
OK, I am done...hopefully somewhere in there I answered your concerns. ;D

Re:Air Box
My recommendation would be the Scotty 2.5 ...

I don't think even Scotty has seen this: :
