AFE filter getting sucked in?

On my PDR twins with the AFE air filter.... after looking under the hood today I was a bit dumb founded by what looked like to be where the twins are sucking the AFE filter into it's self. It almost looks like an hour glass. Is this normal? The truck's only got 1000 miles on it since the twins where put in. Surely it couldn't be that dirty already?

How big is your AFE? On my pdr40/b2 setup, I've cleaned my AFE filter twice in 9 months/13028.4 miles. IIRC, the dimentions on mine are 5" x 12" x 7" aFe cone
filter with a 5" outlet on it.

It sounds like the same one. It's a freaking huge cone filter. Guess I have to clean it more often than I thought.

I dunno. I cleaned mine because I found the spaces in between pleats filled with greasy dust. Reminded me of dryer lint. It filled up about half the pleat height. I'm not sure why it got so much more dirty than it did when it was stock. I wouldn't think they'd need to move that much more air all the time?

This is one of the reasons Scotty went to the UNI filters for his air units. The AFE filters have gone WAY down in quality, lots of problems have been seen with them the last year.

I contacted UNI for a filter but they just told me to look at their website for more information even though I explicitly stated the largest filter on their site was a 4" inlet and asked if they had larger.

Got any phone contact information Lary?

Out of all the AFE filters I have owned or seen I only had a problem with one and I called AFE and was promptly taken care of.
AFE's quality is great in my opinion.
I can't fault a filter for doing its job and blocking particles from entry into the air stream.
AFE needs to come out with a filter specificly designed for compound turbos.
One that won't try and collapse when loaded or restricted by dirt.

I wonder if anyone has tried the filter sock with twins to keep out the nasty larger particles?

Larry what kind of quality related problems have been seen with AFE's filters?
