Wel I got the urge to find some more poop. Did some research and adjusted my starwheel towards the engine 20 clicks. Didnt do much but make a bunch of smoke so its going back 20 clicks. My questions are this.#1, I read the AFC cover has 4 attaching screws or ? On mine on the top rear is a screw and the forward a rivit lookin deal, on bottom there was what looked like 2 broken bolts? this also is supposed to hold down the fuel shut down solenoid in place. For future HP work,Fuel plate etc this AFC cover needs to come off correct? I ended up as a makeshift repair to keep my solenoid from moving around installing 2 roll pins in what was left of the holes.
#2, Since disabling the wastegate will do nothing for the bottom end what would help?Injectors,fuelplate? At what pressure does the WG typically open?

 

some of the screws are tamper proof,are you sure thats not what your looking at,they have a round head with a hole in the center,i use a hammer and chisel to turn them out.if you go to this site www.tstproducts.com you will find fuel plates and info on how to adjust and install performance upgrades along with power and boost specs for our engines depending on year and tranny...

 

Positive, thats what is on the top, but the bottom cover holes are demoed. someone previously tried to take it apart.

 

OK, If your standing at the drivers side front wheel, looking at the pump, the master cylinder is at your right, your belly is up against the fender. You have a total of 4 bolt/screws that hold the afc cover on (actually 5-but I'll get to that).

Two are closest to the valve cover, with the left one being a "break off screw" it is smooth, and has a tiny hole in the middle. The one on the right should be a standard slotted head.

There are two more on the lower side or the side closest to you. The bottom left should be a 8mm metric hex head and the bottom right should be the same. They are the ones that hold the fuel solenoid bracket in place. They may have allot of paint on them and look smooth? The 5th one is down low on the back side of the pump and it also holds down the solenoid bracket. It is an 8 mm hex bolt, best reached with a deep 8mm socket and small (1/4) ratchet.

Are you saying that the 2 bolts that normally hold the solenoid bracket are gone? If that is the case, you are lucky you don't have oil all over the side of the engine. Need to get that fixed asap.

The break off screw can be removed by driving a torx bit into the that tiny hole (did not work for me), or use a chisel to make a slot in it and use a screw driver, (that's what worked for mine).

Sounds like someone tried to get into the pump, did not get far, and either forgot to put the screws back or they vibrated out (LOC-TITE medium strength).

Get those other screws out, and go to the hardware store, get some metric allen head bolts and be done with it. The bolts that hold the solenoid bracket are a little longer than the two that don't. They are metric as well 6.00 x 1.00 is the thread pattern on all of them.

Mark you afc housing in relation to the pump so you can put it back to normal if you need to. The afc housing is what needs to be removed to get at the fuel plate.

Man get that fixed right away. If your still having troubles with your truck, that could be a big part of it. Keep us posted, Kevin

 

Thanks KD 460, you described it perfectly. I cant tell if the bolts are broke off or what. I have no leaks as of yet thankfully. What problems are you refering to? I can see the top bolt/rivit are still untouched, the paint is un marked.The 5th one I never noticed so Ill look for it to see if its been SNAFU`ed also. I need to fix the bottom asap I suppose.

Sorry, had you mixed up with someone else having fueling problems.

That 5th bolt is on the solenoid bracket, and the best way to describe it is: just follow the bracket with your hand towards the firewall, the metal bracket will make a 90* bend down, just follow the metal bracket down and you will find the bolt.

It can be a little tricky with the break off screw because the injector lines are kind of in the way. I hope the bolts are not broke, but I would think you would have an oil leak if those holes did not have a piece of bolt in them. Can't remember if they are thru holes or not I think they are . It will be interesting to find out what you have going there. Good luck, Kevin

 

Once you have the cover off the broken bolts should come off easily with vice grips.
