97 and very moderate mods
I just got a 97 3500 12 valve auto tranny with 35,000 original miles. I've read all over the forum and see that most believe the truck will last a long time if left stock. Can I do just an intake air kit and exhaust from Turbo back and not mess anything up? Mostly concerned about the tranny. I'm really not interested in any other mods for it. Thanks

I myself have a 97 2500 4x4 auto. Great truck, i have quite a few things done to it and drive it everyday.
Absolutely--you can do all the mild stuff like intake and exhaust and not risk the transmission whatsoever.
You can help ensure your transmission stays healthy by replacing the stock pan with one that has larger capacity like a Mag-Hytec.
Congratulations on finding a 97 with so few miles on it.

CONGRATULATIONS on finding a 1997 Dodge CTD 12 valve with only 35,000
miles!
You are very lucky to find a truck like that such low miles. FWIW, I have a 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve which I bought new and still have and will tell you that it is the BEST Dodge CTD I have ever owned and I have had four (4) of them.
You can do the mods you mentioned and not hurt anything at all. I would also suggest you doing or have a reputable shop check the dreaded "killer dowel pin" to make sure you won't have any problems with that. As far as the trannny, you can install a shift kit (like a "Trans-Go) and raise the line pressure up some to have a little "peace of mind." I did that on my 1996 initially and it did help.
Again,....congratulations on your purchase of the truck.

Thanks for the heads up on KDP. I just searched it on this forum and found a lot of good info. I'll ask my neighbor who I bought it off if he ever did it. I did find an old belt under the seat, so maybe he did it and replaced the belt also, if I'm lucky. If not I found the site for the kit and will order it. It's got me paranoid now, but I'm hoping it's unlikely to happen with such low mileage and it will hold off another week until I get the parts.
Been meaning to post pics yet haven't gotten some new badges I ordered, can't post until it's in all its full glory!
Thanks again guys
