'96 47RE shifting troubles
I'm posting only because it's Saturday and DTT is closed until Monday.
I just got my truck back from the transmission shop who rebuilt it with a DTT triple disk, DTT master rebuild kit, DTT valve body kit and a couple extra DTT servos, etc that I forgot what they're called right now. I also got their voltage regulator, but they had troubles with it so it's not on.
What it was doing when I got it back was shifting real late with light and moderate throttle, then when at WOT it wouldn't upshift at all until you let off. It shifted real hard even from neutral or park to drive or reverse. I loosened the TV/kickdown cable and took it for a drive, but it shifted too soon and had a BAD flare on 2-3 shift. I adjusted the TV again and now it shifts 1-2 perfect with light to moderate throttle and WOT is perfect at 3000rpm, but 2-3 and 3-4 shifts are way too soon in all driving conditions. Shift firmness is fine.
Any ideas what I can do?
The issue the shop had with the voltage regulator was that the tach and speedo would go dead and it wouldn't shift after 10 sec and come back to life if you hit the brakes or brakelight switch. With it removed, it shifts fine to me and there aren't any 2nd or 3rd gear starts, which the regulator is supposed to prevent.

3-4 is controlled by the TPS and would not have changed with anything you did. That is unless someone was screwing with that too.
The 2-3 shift is always soft because it takes a bit of time for the pressure to relax on the band.

The 2-3 shift is a good firmness, just too early now. It had a flare when the TV cable was not tight enough and only lighter throttles.
I know that a flare is caused by releasing the band too soon before applying the next clutch or the clutch not applying soon enough, but not really how to fix the issue. I've never been good at diagnosing more complex transmission issues and the inner workings of the VB.
Something that I noticed while looking at all of the parts I was given back is that the valves and springs don't look to be used from the shift kit, but the instruction steps and pictures are checked as if they were. There is only one spring that looks to be used and it is broken. (everything is bagged in the original bags, even the one which looks oily and broken). Hmmn... I'm also going to have to wait until Monday to talk with them, just to make sure what was used and what wasn't.
3-4 shifts better/later than the 2-3 shift, but still too early for my tastes.

I take back what I said about the 3-4 shift being better than the 2-3 shift time wise. It was shifting 3-4 way too early on light throttle. I have the TV adjusted to where the part and low throttle shifts are perfect now, but WOT will not shift 2-3 and 1-2 is a little too late at 3000-3100rpm.
Adjusting the TV cable is adjusting the 3-4 shift point also. I had it where 1-2 was 15mph, 2-3 20mph and 3-4 25mph at light throttle. Now I have it 1-2 at ~17mph, 2-3 30mph and 3-4 40mph, but like I said WOT is no good. It will even downshift to 2nd at 55-60mph and peg at 3200rpm until I let off.
I was hoping to be able to play with it more this weekend, but I'll be talking with DTT and my trans guy tomorrow to see what I can adjust to get it to act like I want.
