95 CTD mod info needed

I picked up a TST AFC spring kit and a #6 fuel plate (230hp/605ftlb) and I see a lot of folks using the #10 in this truck along with the 3k governor spring kit. Any reason for the #10 versus the #6?
Doing the KDP, pyro and installing the TST stuff this weekend.. hope I didnt buy the wrong cam plate.
Also I see that low power can be due to slipped timing.. guess Ill bust out the cummins manual and look up how to verify / set this. I see folks usually advance timing 16 degrees or so.. is this recommended for mild street tune and what gains do you get? I will want to be careful I dont exceed 600ftlb by much, its an auto trans.
The AFC controls off-turbo fueling so that should improve response. Any tips on setting the star wheel for a good power / smoke compromise that favors less smoke?
Im also looking into building a homebrew pre-post oiler and have sourced a good pump. What I wonder is can standard air hose rated at 150PSI handle hot oil at 50psi or would I need special hose for this?

I'd go with transmission hose or oil cooler rated hose over air hose

With a stock automatic do not tweak the star wheel. What that does is to make very small adjustments the initial fueling rate at low engine speed. Moving it forward can produce too much low end torque for your transmission to handle before the engine gains enough rpms to properly pressurize the transmission clutch packs and bands if the transmission is worn. If your transmission is in really good shape, then pick up the TST AFC spring kit and use the medium spring, not the light one, and you will both increase your low end power and avoid smoking up the environment. You will still have to be careful of hitting the go pedal too hard from a stop with a stock automatic.

As you increase timing you will also increase power and torque at lower engine rpms. With the mileage on your automatic, do not go much beyond 15 degrees or you risk breakage and shifting problems.

One of the best investments you can make is to purchase the TST 3,000 rpm governor spring kit. What that does for you is make a dramatic difference in drivability of an automatic on the highway. It keeps the governor from defueling at moderate engine speeds on hills as it lugs down.

As you are kitting the pump take the time to change the screen in the fuel heater and replace all your flexible fuel hoses, even those back on top of the tank.

TST #6 and GS3K?

I was reading over some forum posts and some info on TST's site and I do believe what I need for this isnt the AFC kit (since yeah it seems to add a bit much on the low end which could hurt the transmission) but the governor spring kit. Anyone know why TST recommends a #4 plate with the GS3K? something on their site about not recommending it for other setups. Im guessing again it adds too much fuel on the bottom.. or that it combined with the #6 I have could put you over the safe 600ft/lb the auto can handle.
I talked to my transmission mechanic last week about adding a valve body to raise the fluid pressure and clutch force to hold more power but he said he wouldnt go that route but would recommend building up the clutches first ($$$).

All this stuff you have read is crap... It doesnt matter what you do as far as bombs go, your tranny will fail if your foot is always on the floor(like mine). These trannys will not hold up to stock Hp and Tq levels if you are hammering on it. Drive it nice and you can do whatever you want. Drive it hard and you are gonna pay the piper no matter what.. Your right foot is the limiter..
