Searched and read up on it a lot............why it cracks, how to fix at machine shop etc......

read where one guy replied about Dodge repalces the block if you've got a 53, is this true? does it have to be cracked first? and what if you're not original owner and bought private party (as i am from neighbor)? i'd call dodge but they're closed

 

Dodge won't replace unless cracked and still under the 5yr/100k warranty, as far as I know.

There is not actually a recall.

Some crack, some don't.

But I made sure not to get a 53, so I could sleep better at night

 

so would the 5yr 100k warranty continue to me buy'n private vs dealer?

Yep, just bought my 01.5 in June of 05(purchased new in July of 01 by the previous owner) and brought it into Dodge to have lift pump replaced. Did it no questions asked. I did pull my VA though

 

What year is the 53 block? Why does it crack? Where does it crack?

The 99 I had was a 53 block and didn't have any troubles with it for the year we had it. We didn't know about the problems with a 53 block until after we bought it.

 

the 5yrs ran up in January (its a 2000 truck).......crap on that.......truck is be'n taken to mechanic to look it over for peace of mind, he'll check to see if its a #53 or not as i didn't get a chance
