5 inch VS. 6inch dual stacks...

So I was wondering today.... I now have a 5 inch exhaust system with a 4 into 5 down pipe.. I get get my hands on a set of 5 inch stacks or a set of 6 inchers. So I was wondering, will there be much sound difference between the 5 and 6. I assume the 6'ers will have a deeper tone to them...?? Whatcha think I should go with in your opinion??? thanks!

It would be deeper if they were 108" tall, like on a big truck but since ours are so short i dont think you will notice a whole lot.

I think that getblown5.9 has had both on his truck. I think I remember seeing some pics of both a while back. You might try to get ahold of him. I know that my 6's have a pretty deep rumble, but I have never rode in one with 5's to compare.

my 5" have a pretty deep rumble, but I've never heard 6" I would guess they would have at least a slightly deeper tone.

I dont think there is noticable difference if they stacks are 3ft and less, its basicly the same tone. I did notice that the stock turbo makes the truck sound raspy. When you put in a larger turbo with a 4 inch exit on it that makes a big difference in sound. My 99 sounds awesome now, it has 5 inch turn outs to the side, 18 inches above the bed rail. Everyone says it sound the best now and its real deep.

I would think the 6" pipes would have a deeper tone, but even if they didn't, IMO 6" is the only way to go on a dually....anything less is too small

may not be exactly what you're looking for but if you make a stack box use thicker material to make a deeper tone ...

made mine out of 1/8" and a buddies out of 1/4" and the 1/4" sounds more like a deep bellow ...

hey guys, just looking through super truck essentials and found an awsome picture of a burn-out w/6" stacks, which i'm very interested in myself, but i also read somewhere that they recommend running 4-5" exhaust horsepower ratings up to 450hp and 6" w/ 450+hp. i get a lot of info from my Diesel Power mag. that comes out quarterly which i have a subscription so i don't miss an issue. great mag. i highly recommend!

I work on bigger trucks mainly, the thing that makes the sound in them, is 1) size and 2) bends. Most truckers love 90* bends because they bring the tone down to where you get that real diesel sound. I ran 6in stacks for years, all the trucks I have worked on sound about the same. I had to build mine by hand since there was no kit when I put them on. Truckers, if they know what they are doing, will tell you the more 90*, though it creates back pressure, will help tone and overall loudness. I remember last year at spring fling, when I pulled in, the guys told me to shut it off cause it was just ridiculously loud.....
