5" exhaust ?'s

I just aquired a free 5" exhaust system w/o a downpipe from a friends old setup when he went to stacks. I have been reading on here some about a 5" hurting performance on stockish rigs. My 97 is bascially stock except a #100 plate, BHAF, and straight pipes stock exhaust currently. Right now I get get some pretty hot exhaust temps pulling trailers and such. Would the 5" help in that sense? If so would it be best to leave the stock downpipe or get a 4"? Thanks.

Heck man if you got a whole 5" system for FREE.......by all means man install that sucker!!! I've heard that it does affect the performance a little bit, but if I were you I wouldn't worry about it. I can quarantee you won't really even be able to tell. Not only that but you can always add more juicy juice to over come any power loss

Where is the best place to pickup a downpipe? Any pro/con with experiences? Thanks.

I too would go with the 5"! Free... and if your biggest concern is EGT's, the 5" will help. Any loss of power will be very minor. May show up on a dyno...but I don't believe you will be able to tell the difference when driving it.

We had the 5" exhaust on my truck when it only had a 100 plate and you could not tell the difference at all in the power. EGT's dropped 150 degrees.
